Well, if it isn't related to something that was actually implemented by the developers, then it's either a bug or a glitch, a bug being something that can be recreated (and fixed) while a glitch is something that can't be recreated and really only happens at random. Er, if I recall the general definitions of each term correctly.

yep and my conclusion is based on other people seeming to report this is its re creatable. Hopefully we will have a fix soon. Based on my findings in my post ill quote below its safe to call this unintended.

Your free to believe what you want to believe.
But non critical items will be deleted after 10 seconds [ not 5 ] of being unloaded.
    As set by assets.config file

so that means what I encountered was a bug. You are hurting your own case

EDIT: also dont snip my post respond to it all or not at all. you would also benefit from reading other peoples posts in this thread

Well if it specifically says 10 seconds in the assets.config file...
    How is that a bug?

because all my stuff dissapeared in front of my eyes in less then 5 or 3 sec. Maybe close to 2. It was literally dropped then vanished

Can asset.config also explain why other items (even ones not dropped by me) remain on a planet for very long periods of time when I come and go repeatedly from said planet?

Example. I dig straight down into a planet with a full inventory. leaving a hole full of uncollected blocks. 15 hours of play time pass over the coarse of 2 rl days and many different planets. Come back and blocks are in the hole I dug. This is a real example as I witness it alot

Cache limit is set at 128.
    And starts purging at 64.

So only a 128 items can be held in cache at a time.
Since you said you broke all boxes. more then likely there were more then 128 items.
After 64 items are there, it randomly deletes all non essential items reguardless of the 10 second wait limit.

Also I didn't "Snip" your post. You edited it. You fail at lying.

It's not a glitch, items that are not PERSONALLY DROPPED BY A PLAYER will be deleted. If you break open a chest it's the same as any other block. This is also the same for anything broken by rain or any other forces of nature.
(Also I think they mean critical as in the matter manip.. now there's NO WAY TO GET RID OF IT)

Many people also used to believe the world was flat. Guess where that got them.

Like I said - its in the assets.config file. Your free to modify it any time you wish. You just can't set priority of which items are considered critical and which aren't.

It's not a bug, it's purging, it has been explained to you. In order for something to be purged it probably needs to be loaded, so if you're on another planet then the planet with your loose dirt on it is not loaded, therefore there is no reason for it to be cleaned up. You lost items, it's a shame, next time you play a game don't let items you care about sit on the ground, ever. Further, purge limits are not an uncommon thing, so dumping a whole bunch of valuable stuff on the ground is just not smart practice.

Dont talk down to me on how video games work. I am well aware. Terraira didnt do this. If they did it wasnt like this.

Terraria had a purge limit of 400, at which point items dissappeared. Just a higher cap for a game that had more time to optimize.

To be fair there DOES seem to be a bug in that you can kill something, die, come back, and meat/pixels it dropped will still be there most of the time. You can die with mined blocks on the ground and have them be there too. You can wander into a hole something died in to acid ages later and pixels and hats and stuff will just. . . be there.

Which is to say that there seems to be a bug going in the opposite direction of this thread, wherein things just don't get deleted until they reach the 128 items in a chunk limit.

I, uh, LIKE that bug though, so I'd prefer it not be fixed. Also I'm too lazy to go test it extensively.

Can now confirm that blocks destroyed by the player last just as long as mob drops or items from broken chests, or even items dropped by the player. It was a total of about 5 minutes, however.

I do believe this is intended behavior. As I mentioned earlier, if the items aren't loaded then there is no reason to purge them, and it would actually be more work to purge them.

When you die it saves that cache- so you can collect those items.
Otherwise every time you die you would loose them.

    An inconsistency of design

  18. Ok if I'm not mistaken there is an item drop limit on screen, if you were breaking all of your boxes and the items were flooding the screen, I think after 100 "correct me if I'm wrong" items are on the screen they will automatically start disappearing to accommodate the new items being dropped/appearing. If you were breaking all of your boxes and had hundreds of items, they're going to disappear.

Also since they were not on your person and in boxes, they don't count as being player drops so they wont be persistent. From your description it sounds like you shot yourself in the foot.

So you caused hundreds, if not thousands of items to spawn instantaneously, and then got mad because weird things happened?

    Are you new to videogames?

He aimed at his foot and pulled the trigger, but the fact that it went through his foot is a "bug".
