Hmm I just realised something. The Glith are featured there. That means either they're at least as old as that particular device (which begs several questions, the first being "how old is this gate exactly?"), or their creators were robots as well, and that excludes them from being the alleged progenitors, as their figure is not prominent there.

 

It's obviously ancient technology... The tendril-eye thingies at the top should suggest that it is related to the Tentacle Biomes and the creature that attacked/Destroyed Earth... The missing head is either like TF2's 10th class joke or is a reference to another race... We'll just have to wait and see.

 

Please tell me that these will be additional findings on outpost asteroids that lead to a much larger and indepth singular outpost moon (or some such), otherwise all the work going into making the outpost dungeon procedurally generated = 0 ( and it will make me sad). I do like the idea of a centralized outpost though, as others have said it will make for a great gathering place for multiplayer fun (not to mention the possibilities of live bands in the space bar dives (no pun intended))

 

Not sure if I like the tentacles on a otherwise very geometric and precise gate. Maybe if the actual portal part was a ripply curtain connecting the pillars. Eh, there will be plenty of mods changing their look no matter what.

 

Or it could be super advanced technology that warped itself from the future. A portal could totally transport itself through time-space. Maybe it wasn't even there moments ago...

 

If the arch is broken, how does it stand?

 

That's just plain wicked.

It's almost eerie. Epic. Something that's mystical, yet technological. I absolutely love it. Great job on the artist or artists that drew that up. Very well done.

 

That gate looks pretty badass!

Hopefully there will be different kind of gates... Like some you could use to connect one planet to another for example, or one star system to another

Well i take the portal look like more an alliance against the tentacle thing, we see a crack in human's head, which for me seems like destruction of Earth, and the 8th race is entirely destroyed by the tentacle, the outposts are safe places against tentacle.

 

Am I the only one who sees the 'crack' in the humans head as strands of hair? It's in the exact same place on both faces. If it was an actual crack, then they would be placed slightly differently and be slightly different shape, like the cracks in the empty slot.

Very attractive looking gate

So much potential with the adding of this gate, it's too much to write about.

I would love to see some kind of feature that has the gate send you to some area with hardcore bosses that actually require teamwork (not possible to solo) which would be awesome.

 

Mentioned the cracked human face/theorized that it related to the fact that earth was destroyed and humans are on the way to extinction in another thread. But I'm sure we're not the only ones, but when discussing theories with little to no evidence most people don't like to put themselves forward.

I'm looking at the faces on the gate as a kind either a hit-list or THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE situation.

The idea that this is ancient and yet it depicts the Apex in their current form doesn't mean much, in terms of space/time, if the creators of the gate had enough knowledge/ability to know in advance how their various projects would progress over time. Or it indicates that they're still out there somewhere, manipulating events to be what they projected them to be. The fact that the human skull is cracked (maybe indicating the gates 'update' to fit a recent event) gives the impression that the gate isn't a fixed structure, but retains some kind of technology/morphology that allows it to adjust. Perhaps it's actually a piece of a larger trans-dimensional computer system type thingymijig. The possibilities are endless.

 

Shit shit shit shit shiiiiiiit. I know I'm the billionth person saying this, but yeah, there is a missing face in the plaque-race thing. Is this suggesting at an unknown race? Perhaps it's suggesting at an extinct race, seeing as it is destroyed? Perhaps it's the creators of the Glitch?

 

No, no, it's an invisble race already implemented in the game.

 

My Theory:

The 8th "Progenitor" race created the gate as a safe haven for those who would come after. They saw the threat of the tentacle beast, and created/modified races that would come after and be able to stop the tentacles. It would give them a reason to create the Glitch and modify the Avians (assuming that they're the same race of aliens in both cases). It's also possible that they've had a hand in preparing the other races as well.

Ultimately, they were unable to see the fruits of their labor, and were destroyed, thus the missing face and why we don't see them in-game.

 

Wow. That is some crazy artistry right there. To whomever did the pixel art for that thing, a standing ovation for you!

I definitely wasn't expecting that when I was thinking star/warp gate. I was thinking either crystal technology or an Avian version of a Mass Effect gate...
Or just a Stargate-stargate in space...

And as for the missing race, why not ?
