So, I saw the contest, and thought: Hey, if the art doesn't have to be amazing, then I'm game! So this creature was made to go along with my Isopoda planet idea. So, here it is: My first pixel art AND my contest entry. Isopodians Bio: These creatures live on Isopoda(See here), which is a gargantuan Isopod curled up in a ball. The Isopodians(Needs a more creative name) sometimes have to deal with their own planet uncurling and attacking them. They believe that their planet is actually their god. While they are a tribal people, they have an immense understanding of biomechanical objects. They've figured out simple space travel with their biomechanical ships. Their weapons include: primitive guns that fire small organisms that latch on to things and bite/claw them., Spears with living creatures at the end of them, and many other living weapons. They've also made "cars" by using other critters from their planet that are large enough to be ridden. Of course, the creatures they use won't listen to them, so they use a strange poison derived from their own blood, to create a form of mind-control. While not completely enslaving the victim, it does calm it down, and make it easy to tell it what to do. Most things only need one dose of it, and then they are completely at the service of the Isopodians. They have also tamed the wolf-like isopods on their planet, and have used them as pets, and hunting animals. Features: The Isopodians simply look like humanoid isopods. They have hard shells, and have many arms. Most of the arms just hang there though. The greens arms are also slightly translucent, so you're able to see their blood flowing inside! They have somewhat stubby legs, but are still capable of running quite fast. They are a bit shorter than the average human, as they are hunched over a little. They have two long antennae protruding from their head. They have shiny, compound eyes. The colors of the Isopods vary immensely. They can be any color from black to pink. From red to green. Isopodians are also able to curl into a ball if in extreme danger. They are somewhat skittish when it comes to new visitors, but do nice things for them and they may come to like you! Experienced Isopodians wear battle feathers on their heads. They are awarded these if they defeat one of the many horrors on this planet in battle. They are a very peaceful race however. Special Abilities: So, most aliens have special abilities, and the Isopodians are no different. They have extremely good night-vision, as their planet is quite dark. Their shells are strong enough to deflect a incoming bullet/laser, so attacking from behind isn't the best idea. Their antennae are very sensitive, and are able to pick up the tiniest vibrations, which means they can almost "see" without their eyes. They are also to curl into a ball to protect themselves. Religious Beliefs: The Isopodians only believe in one god: Vontoya. Vontoya is the god that is their planet.(At least they believe that) They often give Vontoya/their planet sacrfices of Isowolfs, and sometimes criminals. This only calms their planet for a little while however, meaning they constantly need to feed Vontoya more. Their prophecy states that a certain creature will permantly calm Vontoya.(AKA: You) Villages: Like most of the things created by the Isopodians, the villages are living(Sort of). They have literally taken thousands of small critters, and stitched them together. Nobody can figure out how the "building creatures" stay alive after being stitched together. They also have giant walls around their villages made from some of the nastier creatures' teeth. Behavior: The Isopodians would be very skeptical about you when they first see you. They would send you on a rite of passage of sorts to see if you can fulfill the prophecy. Some of the challanges would include defeating a terrifying beast, finding a rare artifact on their planet, and harvesting poisonous plants. After you complete all the challenges, they will allow you into the vilages. From there, you will have many quests leading up to the one where you calm Vontoya once and for all. Caste System: The Isopods have a caste system of sorts. there are a number of ranks, but here they are: King type thing Shaman Warriors and Sentries Merchants and Artists Scientists and Builders Farmers Quest: The main quest involving the Isopodians would involve them asking you to calm their "god." You later learn that their god is actually their planet. I have no idea what you could do to calm it, but they would reward you greatly if you did. The rewards would be: An Ispodian crewmate, A biomechanial ship, a pet "isowolf", and one of their biomechanical weapons! Maybe even some of their mind-control serum. Enemies: The Isopodians don't have any true enemies, as they have never gone very far from their own planet, fearing that their race could be enslaved by other species. They are actually being hunted down by a group of bounty hunters trying to eradicate their species, but they don't know that. The bounty hunters have yet to put their plans into action. The Isopodians' only natural enemies are the horrible creatures that inhabit the caves of the planets, which are giant things that assault the villages from time to time. The Isopodians are usually able to fend them off however. Attacks: Roll ram: The isopod curls into a ball and rolls really fast at you! Guns: Self-explanatory Latch on: The isopod latches on to an enemy and holds on until it gets killed! Drops: War Feathers from high-ranking individuals. Vanity item. Has 10% chance of dropping. Isopodian Shell: Drop from all Isopodians. Used as a low level armor, but it grants immunity to most poisons. 50% chance of dropping. Isopodian Claw: Can be used to make a spear with a claw at the end. 80% chance of dropping. Strange Creature: Very rare drop from Isopodians with bio weapons. Can be made into a pet, or used for a weapon. That about sums it up! I know my pixel art isn't the best, but tell me if you like the idea! Disclaimer: The devs can still use this idea if I don't win the contest. (Sorry about the small picture!)
I wouldn't worry about bumping your posts so much. A lot of people are looking to get involved in things like this, to get into the Dev's good graces, for the beta launch. so people will be looking to help out whenever they can . though one thing that can put people off, is the large amount of text. try adding a bit of colour to the text to make it more visibly appealing, and to highlight key points in your submission. on topic: I like the idea of a sentient life, type monster. but I feel there is a too large a level of complexity involved in this. simple yet unique is what the majority of people (including the devs) are looking for. p.s. Im sorry that I didn't take the time to read your Isopoda planet suggestion, but I felt I get the idea from this post.
Well, I did add a bit more color to the post, and I think it looks nicer now. I don't think there's too much complexity. The different castes could be achieved with the procedural generation. The A.I wouldn't be much harder than the other things people are suggesting. The only real complex thing is the planet they live on, but I feel that the devs could so something like it. I do hate it when people are put off by large amounts of text, as most forums I frequent like that kind of stuff.
I like the idea of a living planet, it somehow reminds me of that one Futurama episode where Bender floats through space and some very small people start colonizing his body. Also the implementation of a quite long quest is very neat, good job on that one. Overall a very nice entry. =)
I LOF DIS IDEA!!! I seriously like this though. It's an original and interesting idea. I hope the devs pick this!
