If you need someone to hold your hand and give you some gameplay reason to build something in a sandbox building game, the genre might not be for you.

Unfortunately, neither of these things are actually fixed. Gamma Sector monsters one-shot you, Iron swords have 89 DPS, while Steel has 5300, and Titanium has 10000, both of the later one-shotting anything that doesn't one-shot you first.

If you're not interested in improving the game or contributing any kind of constructive feedback this thread might not be for you.

If you don't get why I'm making this thread, this planet may not be for you.

They're not useless, but now they're unbalanced. Gah. They went from "useless" to "Too useful"

...Except armor then? Armor is still useless?

I've seen a lot of people complaining that building is pointless. I thought it was for a while until I hit a certain point, and that's when my ship wasn't big enough to carry everything I found. So I have a home planet with a small hut and my ore refinery. I go back there just to use that, and enjoy the low lvl meat farming. I would like to highlight this is still in beta, and that build may see superfluous to some, it's necessary and fun to others.

for me building bases is actually the main reason i play, once we get the chance to keep our saves, i will be hoarding every object/type of block to one planet where i will create a multi colored, multi textured mega city

...Huh. I just noticed that torches take longer to mine than the dirt they're resting on.

It's not about reasons for building. It is about reasons against it. Right now, building conflicts with the overarching concept of exploration. Once you leave a planet, there rarely is any meaning in coming back to it. This goes so far that it is flat out technically hard to achieve this, because you can mark exactly one home, and otherwise need to painstakingly write down long coordinates to find back to it.
This conflicts with building bases, because you will lose them very quickly, and if you do not want that, you will find it very hard to advance in the rest of the game. These two parts, building and exploring, right now, are not composing each other, but instead conflicting. This is a problem, and it is not something to be marginalized, claiming that "building is fun in and of itself duh".

Exactly, it's not like we don't want to build bases, it's that it feels punishing to do so.

maybe a "notes" system for planets would be good, so you could mark planets other than just the home eg. "giant castle" that way you wouldn't lose them, and it would be worth building unique bases on multiple planets

Now this might be strange coming from me, but your avatar is definitely on the creepier side of things.

On-topic: A note system is definitely needed, however it would not fix the problem that coming back would mean little else than... well, looking at it and making some adjustments. It would lack a base-of-operation feeling when this base isnt really needed at all.

What would be real good instead of a single home planet system would be the ability to bookmark specific planets. To make it better, add the ability to name the bookmarks stuff like "Home Base," "Planet with the Flaming Monkey-Horses," etc.

And make it so that clicking on the bookmark automatically enters in the coordinates.

Good list. Unlike some of the above posts, I do agree entirely that building so far is nearly useless - mechanically. It's fun, and building in this game is incredibly easy and more entertaining than other games in the genre, but at the moment it really doesn't serve too much of a mechanical purpose (Unless you run out of room on your ship).

my avatar is a drawing of clementine from the walking dead game :)

but i guess it's more of a personal playstyle thing because "looking at it and making some adjustments" is fun for me, i will be exploring mainly to find building resources

Eh...the Assault Rifles I've found have performed at, or better than Snipers on average. Mostly because I've been able to stun-lock and push back mobs with those, and unlike shotguns, they don't cost so much energy that they're spent after 1-4 shots. Still, Snipers are boss for damage, and at a shockingly low energy cost for the most part.

But apart from that, yeah. The other melee weapons are fairly lacking. Especially spears.

But the assault rifles don't do any knockback from what I have seen.

Those with knockback definitely exist. I wouldn't have been able to clear Tier 2 without mine to hold the hoards back.

Maybe it varies from rifle to rifle, the one I had definitely did not knockback, guess that's worth a look.

There's a lot of things the game doesn't tell us about weapons and armor.
As I've discovered from using shields...

Also, I guess it's not useless, but it's still kind of mad easy to skip all the armor sets and just rush straight to impervium. IMO all sets should require the previous one as ingredient, but that's just me.
