It's No Use! A collection of mechanics and ideas that are considered "useless".

    Fixed Issues

    1. Weapons against higher level monsters (Fixed with re-rebalance,)
    2. Ores you've outgrown (was never actually useless in this game, but usually becomes useless. Kudos, devs)
    3. Silver Armor after Snow Infantry armor (Fixed with rebalance)
    4. Weapons found on a planet (Fixed with rebalance)
    5. Drills (fixed with Indignant Koala)
    6. Armor (Fixed with Indignant Koala)

    Still Useless

    1. Creating planetary bases.
    2. Mech Tech
    3. Morphball Tech
    4. Most back items.
    5. Shield descriptions (I know, but I'm going to put it up top to mark the day when we can see what they do)
    6. Dungeon Loot (blocks are fine)
    7. Gun Accuracy
    8. High-cost banking when ores can be stored
    9. Melee weapons that aren't two-handed swords or two one-handed swords. Spears especially (Lesser range. suggestions on how this would be fixed?)
    10. Different guns. (as in, they're too much the same)
    11. Shotguns in general.
    12. Buff Pods. Their buffs suck, and they kill you way too often.
    13. Threat Levels
    14. Unexplored planets in past sectors. (Unavoidable?)
    15. "slow start" bullets. Their damage doesn't justify their slow start.
    16. Matter Manipulator after 5 minutes of gameplay.
    17. Legendary weapons.
    18. Minibosses that hit harder than the tier's bosses. (Also, they drop weapons that are weaker than the tier's craftable weapons)

Well, my "useless" list is starting to grow, but, hey, It's a beta. It's to be expected.

I'd like to compile these in a list to show how far we've come, and how far we still need to go.

Suggest what is "Useless" on this thread, and present a strong reason why it is "useless". If the reason is strong enough, I shall add it to the list. Please do not suggest features in a future update as "useless". These have yet to be tested.

How have you tested the mech post-update already?

You are forgetting a massive IMO or IMHO in your title, I haven't gotten to mechs yet but, eh, not the games fault you don't like homes.

Seriously, if you find building to be useless than that's your opinion, but a lot of people enjoy that aspect of the game just as much as combat if not more.

I'm going to assume the thing that they're guessing, but 'm putting it on the "useless" list because of it's current low damage and reduced mobility, as well as a warning to eeryone who wants it, and a reminder to put it on the "Fixed Issue" list once they start doing decent damage to things.

It's fun, but has little function because the game, currently, encourages you to leave the planet after about an hour.

Morph Ball tech by combat standards. The bomb timer is way too long to be of any use against monsters.
Hiker's Backpack item. It's description alludes that it will give more storage space, yet it doesn't.
Making one home per sector isn't that bad, I suppose, if you actually want to use the Home Planet system. But making a base for every planet is pretty useless. They could make items unable to be placed in ships, but that would trigger The Great Rustling of 2013.

How is making bases useless? For the longest time, that was pretty much exclusively the POINT of Minecraft and people still do it over and over again, even though there are some "quest" sort of thingies that lead to a massive boss fight. But really, the point of Minecraft is building, building, building. Making stuff is fun, even if it doesn't directly impact your current boss-fighting goals in a significant way. Can the building options in SB be improved in big big ways? Oh hell, yeah. I can think of many ways to improve the building experience in SB and even link it to questing, but building, by itself, is very satisfying IMHO.

    This man gets it.

I absolutely LOVE building bases, but leaving the planet is required. So, you go in, mine everything you can, chop down the trees, raid all the dungeons, kill all the special NPCs, and suddenly,

One of the quickest and easiest things the devs could do to make bases feel relevant, even with frequent planet hopping, is to implement a personal teleportation system. You've got one in the ship, so the tech is already part of the game world. Now implement the ability to build a personal teleporation network. Perhaps costly to build, perhaps not, but something that gives the player the ability to drop teleport points on multiple planets, then select the desired destination from a menu.

I guess one way to incentivize building bases would be to make it so that you can't farm on your ship and also make it possible to teleport between one designated location and your ship as well as beaming to the planet you're on right now. That way you could do your thing elsewhere and have an easy way of getting back and forth between wherever your base is and your ship without burning off lots of fuel in the process. Because let's be honest, with the home planet system in place, the only reason bases aren't quite as useful as they could be is because you can bring all the necessities in your ship and to constantly fly back to one planet is just a resource drain.

EDIT: lol the guy above me had the exact same idea.

Once again, OPINION, I never felt encouraged to leave a planet unless I WANTED to.

Yeah my post said make it so that you CAN'T do that to incentivize finding a place to settle down if you want to grow crops.

Yeah, I was just in the process of noticing that and deleting my post, but you replied too fast

That said, I've been farming on my ship for a while, but I still build a base per sector and build a large farm there. The farm on the ship is too small to really sustain food and fibers for bandages requirements, so having a REAL farm is kinda needful.
