It's my pixels, and I need it now!

I was very excited when my friend told me Starbound updated, and I went on, briefly scanned over the update page and then pressed the "Launch Starbound" button. After seeing the asteroid field in my planet and checking out what kind of moons I had, I went down to my planet to grab as many pixels as I can early in the game. I kept killing the mobs and getting this "Holiday Spirit" stuff. I've been killing mobs for the past hour and none of them have dropped pixels. How else am I supposed to get quick and easy money this early in the game? None of the mobs I kill give me money, and they just give me this holiday spirit stuff.

I had the same issue of it dropping way too often, replacing possible pixel drops, so I kinda ran short on pixels too : P

What exactly is the holiday spirit stuff for? I've tried to "use" it, but... nothing happens, lol.

 

You build a Toymaker's Table at your crafting table, and holiday spirit is the material you use to craft such objects as gendered holiday costumes and various holiday themed decorations.

 

Same here, I wiped and rerolled new characters since yesterdays wipe. That's why im saying with the new saplings it very easy to gather wood to convert into coal, and you usually only need 100 coal to travel tot he next solar system without a hitch.

Make the holiday crafting table, and then craft the unusual gifts (their description just says that theres something weird about them, when placed they "jump" up and down) and then break them with a weapon, they drop pixels ranging from small to decent amounts. It's not great as a solution but its good if you just cant get any pixels.

 

Yeah, i've had trouble gathering pixels early in the game due to those spirits.

I had hoped that we could exchange them for pixels.

 

I can't stress how much co-existing drops needs to be a thing. I cant get any pixels now.Or meat.Or leather.It's either those, cell materia, or hard shells.

 

Didn't know that, now i have something to use the extra spirit i have (just made the santa suit, not interested in decorating)

BTW, anyone else find it funny you have to go on a killing spree to build up holiday spirit?

Since the world I was on was messed up (The biome claims to be forest, I've only found 2 trees and everything else is snow. I'm too scared to circumnavigate because of how strong the monsters are.) I started a new world and now all the mobs don't drop holiday spirit, they drop pixels. It seems to be randomized by planet/solar system/size

 

You can in a way, craft the strange boxes and kill them, they have a chance to drop pixel.

But the core problem with these new drops is that monsters are limited to drop only ONE of their drops, so the to me also very common spirits are often "overwriting" the pixel drops.
I already tweeted Tiy that that should be changed as it makes no sense anyways.

 

Yeah you're right, it's basically bullshit.

I don't mind a holiday feature, I even think it's fun - great idea, but at least implement it in such a way that it won't disturb the entire game balance (make it an additional drop, instead of a replacement), or "beta testing" won't have much meaning during the release.

I have over 500 holiday spirits atm and I'm running short on pixels, I hope it ends soon

 

the little capsules and stuff underground still drop pixels when you whack em with a weapon.

also you can refine ores into pixels, if you have a refinery.
