It's been a long time, Starbound. Reintroduce me to the game.

You read the title. If you don't want to answer with meaningful replies, I highly suggest that you shouldn't even reply.

I'm planning to play Starbound again after not playing for a while. I started almost after Starbound was release, but I stopped a while later because I kinda didn't know what to do and Starbound kept crashing whenever I wanted to play (mainly the latter, of course). Then I kinda forgot about it for a while, until recently.
    >I've probably been missing out on a TON of updates and that is what troubles me right now. My internet is incredibly slow. It takes a long time to download large stuff (something whose size is about 1+ gigabyte(s)). I know the updates are like a few hundred MB but even one update can take large amounts of minutes, if not hour(s). Since there's probably a ton of these updates (back then the devs were constantly releasing updates like every week/other week) it would take me extreme amounts of time. Why does long downloads bother me? Well, if I download, everything would be very slow. A 20 minute video can take up to an hour to fully buffer, in which I would just slam my keyboard out of rage since I am rather impatient. I appreciate the constant updates but sometimes it's too much for my internet or my patience to handle. Is there any alternative way(s) to get to the latest version without swimming through multiple updates?

tl;dr Internet is slow + a lot of updates so I want other ways to get to the latest update.

    >I used to read the daily updates, until I stopped playing. Can someone tell me some recent OMFGWOW things that were implemented in the game?

    >Has forum rules changed recently?

Important things aside, these are questions that are just less important than the ones above.

    >Can someone give me a link to something that teaches me how to use HTML in this forum? I've been on Pojo a lot lately but it has very little HTML stuff (it doesn't even have spoilers like wat.)

    >Is Bacon still active? He's the only person I remember who is in every thread I visit (almost, anyway.)

    One more thing:
    >Is there something that I should hype?

Depending on when you stopped playing, there wont be OMGWTFHOLYCARP stuff in it. Shortly after the beta started ( a month?) the armor-penetration stuff was changed.
Most stuff doesnt one-hit you now, and its easier to understand now (even though the system used first was fun in its own way ;D).
Some mods have been implemented, melee is now aimable, a bundle of bugfixes, a few new biomes, etc.
That being said, CF is working on some pretty BIG stuff, namely ship upgrades, changed progression system, Outpost planets, among other things.
However, these changes are currently only (partially) available in nightly, which possibly isnt really recommended for "super fun" gameplay, because these builds can be riddled with bugs. They are more for people wanting to play around with some of the new features etc.

I would recommend, especially with the connection you seem to have, to wait a bit more.

Also, note that i might miss some of the stuff changed, because while i try to follow the news, i havent really played in a while either, because i am waiting for ship upgrades etc to go to the stable branch (or at least unstable).

I understand where you're coming from. I started playing on release date and pretty much completed the game shortly after, so I decided to take quite a long break untill there's more content. Hopping in and our every now and again, going to stay now though and be more active within the community. :) Just got my 516 Days trophy when I logged in :p

Woah I think the hype and joy of players has dissipated.

Not yet. I'm pretty sure this game WILL live up to the hype someday, when the full release comes out.
Yeah I stopped playing shortly after the armor penetration update thing.

Also I'm not seeing Bacon here so that's a bummer. I feel so new.

Edit: I looked at Bacon's profile and apparently he's last seen yesterday. Whoopee.

Well, its pretty hard for anything thats hyped excessively to live up to all expectations..^^

  8. As it's been stated before -- there hasn't been any content updates since February, as the devs decided to opt for a massive update as opposed to a billion little updates.

Not really. Actually enforcing them has improved (just a bit).

It seems like your questions have all been answered in this thread -- so I'm going to close it down.

Just a heads up @cvnvnasdf , double posting is against the rules. Be sure to use the edit button to add on to your existing posts, as opposed to making consecutive ones in a row.
