Items on the ground disapearing quickly

Okay, so I accidentally mined away a platform two full chests of items were one, thus everything drops to the ground. My inventory was already full, and by the time I was able to place some chests down and unload some stuff all the items on the ground disappeared. Lost lot of stuff including crafting mats and all my instruments. Was this just a fluke thing, or do items on the ground simply disappear way too fast? Or was this something that happens on multiplayer servers but not single player? I was on my ship, which I think items should stay on the ground until you either pick them up or leave the ship.

Hope they'll get around to changing this. I'm thinking a 2nd tool (hammer maybe) should be used to destroy items like furniture and platforms in the mid layer would help a lot. I know I'm not the only one who has accidentally destroyed a platform things have been on.

I am guessing you never heard of the 5 second rule.
You can only pick up things in 5 seconds after it touches the ground or it goes bad.
What if you got a virus or something by picking up those things?

thank god starbound was there to remove those nasty items :p

    P.S
Also happens in single player. Don't know if its garbage collection, or intentional.

I don't mean to be rude, but there is thread after thread based on this already. Please search the forums.

And yes, it'll be altered. Alternatively? Put your pickaxe away near important things, or shift-click for 1-block things.

First off, there are times you want to modify stuff around important things. Secondly, shif-click is still not ideal. Especially when just one click destroys platforms and a lot of other things. It's not always easy to tell where that single block you are editing is, and if anything happens and you move just a fraction to the wrong block...poof. In my case, I was trying to shift click the block below the platforms. I also happened to let go of shift a split second before I let go of my mouse button. So sure, we can say "Gosh well be more careful, don't be stupid, get better" blah blah blah. But it's happened to everyone I know at some point or another. Best just to have either another item to edit mid layer objects or another modifier key like shift that specifically targets the mid layer.

I find if I'm going to be removing things it's usually better to use the Matter Manipulator since it has that highlighter.

I've done it, too. I put all my stuff on railings above me and WHOOPS THERE IT GOES.

Just waiting on 3D printer to work right so I don't even have to worry. That said, yeah, it might be easier for now to use the MM for adjustments/single tile removals. It takes a moment for platforms to break with it, if I recall, plus of course the glowing highlighter is really, really useful.

Yeah, definitely love the area highlighter with it. Guess it's reason to get it out of my storage for now. Haven't had it in my inventory since I made a stone pickaxe lol. Stupid 3D printer. Lost my chef and tools spawner because of it. Boo!

BRAWW fell free to close this thread too if you want since there are others around.
