Usually, I have my sword and flashlight on the center of the hotbar (Sword on L and flashlight on R). However, If I want to switch to using my shield, it will replace my sword and I wouldn't be able to attack. Is there a way to have my shield go to R instead?
If you hold shift+1, then it'll go into your right hand. Alternatively, you could swap your sword with your flashlight, though you would have to attack using RMB instead of LMB.
There is no way to do that at the moment. The only way we can resolve this is by putting the shield in one of your hotbars.
Could you explain that a little differently? Again, in picture form: The shield is on 1, which means it's on my hotbar (as you suggested before). If I press 1, it replaces the dagger, which is on LMB, which is preventing attack. I want it to replace the flashlight, on RMB, when I press 1.

Ah, thank you. I've actually tried the alternative, but it caused confusion, especially when playing other games right after starbound.
