just because something is usefull doesnt mean its unbalanced.

you cant build them you have to find or pixel print them.
they could make it more expensive, rare to find ect.

or just buff the other crates like they did with the normal wood crate.

edit: the whole storage place to items which are avaiable is unbalanced.
when you really collect all the stuff you will run out of space very quick.
reducing then the space of a usefull item doesnt really help...

If they buffed the other crates, people would still use the laboratory lockers, because nobody really needs or wants to use 30-space containers when you have 16-space containers that can fit together so perfectly. Pixel printing them doesn't stop anything, since pixels are so easy to get. Rare to find means nothing either, since you could basically ask anybody on a multiplayer server to lend you one. Nerfing the storage size was the best option.

    How.

How is a cool looking chest, Unbalanced?

Seriously, I want to know, how did it destroy normal progression, make someones journey to endgame a piece of cake, or just break the game, of how easy it became, after one acquires/uses it.

It was, at most, illogical, for it to have that many, and Im not complaining about it being "nerfed", but how was it in any way unbalanced?

or you could just use a mod whith which you have access to all items so you dont need storage space anymore...
multiplayer is no real argumentation against it.

the higher price should not stop people from using it just make it harder to get many.

crates can be stacked too pretty well...buff them so that they have more then crates and the locker and voilla there you have another
usefull crate which people might use.

i am really surprised that some people like to get crippled down instead to get buffs on other things...

The ratio between the space provided to space occupied was completely out of whack and rendered a majority of other containers useless. Something being too good = unbalanced.

while i agree with most points that you have listed, the last point on introducing a high tech storage of 2-300 spaces is abit silly tbh and would completely destroy the point of getting/crafting any other type of storage, considering you can basically store pretty much all that you need on your starship inventory and a large chest or 2 untill you hit end game or at a point in witch you can craft a storage unit of that size

then it completed defeats the point of having any other storage type

    chest 4blocks 16 slots
locker 4blocks 9 slots, can be stacked
crate 6blocks 16 slots can be stacked

why would anyone use now a locker instead of chests when its just about the space?
    because you can stack it?
thats then 8 blocks for 18 slots vs 4 blocks with 16 slots.
two chests next to each other takes 8 slots and you have 32 slots.

so what they did is that no one will use lockers anymore...thats of course much more "balanced" then before.

and crates are right now just usefull when you dont have much space to put them next to each other
so that you have to stack them.

same amount of slots like a chest but 2blocks larger.

Oh my, a chest looks good by default and has has a equal amount of space to most containers, it completely ruins a optional mechanic within the main game, boo hoo.

Please Dark, it was barely in any way trully palpable, unbalanced.Honestly, I just liked their aesthetics more than small crate, hence why I used em.
Never broke a game for me, and even if for builders, Id doubt it would afect them in such a ridiculous way.

i would call that game progression.
you would of course not need the old oudate crates anymore, same as you dont need your old armor anymore when you reached
a higher tier to build another one, or how you can upgrade your ship to be larger
see it as a last high tier upgrade. nothing which you can build early ingame.

It was better then any other allternative, anyone that wanted to optimize their storage hade only one choice of storage to use.

Now they have several choices that are equally good.

    See the point yet?

Honestly if it were me I would make containers only able to stock certain item types. Like LOckers could be used for medical items like bandages and stims. Instead of being able to fit freaking rocketlaunchers and shotguns in something the size of a kitchen cupboard.

they could do the same by buff things instead to cripple them down.
beside of that, chests are now "superior" then all the other choices.

@Darklight..nice to see that you chicken out of a discussion when someone comes
with real numbers which shows that your wrong ;)

As terrible as it sounds, I would love to see the "quick-stack" and "loot all" functions that Terraria has. Or something similar, and more improved. Being able to add all the items you have in your inventory to the already present stacks of those items in a chest by clicking one button would make my life lovely. Then I wouldn't always discover I have 3 different stacks of the same item in three different chests so often.

Also, There is something about the icons in Starbound being tiny that makes it super difficult for me to find and click on the item I am looking for. I honestly am not sure how they could fix this one, unless they add a search function to the inventory.

I like the idea of opening more than one chest at a time. But seriously, they really need to fix the current issue of the inventory window resetting its position when you open a chest. If you move your inventory window by itself, it saves it's location. It will open at that location the next time you open your inventory again. UNTIL you open one container. The saved location is lost. And also make E pressed while hovering over a containers window, close the window.

As i said in the second post of your thread. I agree, they could instead have buffed the other storage choices to make them more valid.

The question then becomes if the player needs that much storage (something i personaly havent contemplated at more then a personal level so i wont argue for or against it).

I think if you stack a bunch of lockers on top of each-other, they should get a linked inventory increasing the size of the slot window. 2 lockers would open a window of 18 spaces. 4 lockers opens a window of 36 spaces to a max of whatever the window constraints are. Sort of like, opening all your nearby/connected storage at once. There could be certain containers that have this linked function. Since we tend to stack certain ones anyway. While this doesn't "increase" storage space, it would make it less annoying.

i edited my post, maybe you havent seen it.
the point of having now several choices isnt reall there.

some need it some not. it benefits the people who need it and the ones who dont should not care.

    nice idea.

Theres aloooooot of different chests ingame. So chests being superior means you have aloot of different choices.

(Off course personaly i would prefear a precise system where the storage gives different amount of storage depending only on its block size, perhaps with modifiers for materials used to craft it. That way they would all be equally usefull if on the same tier material).

Edit: Btw, if you add 2 blocks to a chests for platforms (since they arent stackable) they have the same block size to storage ratio as crates. So normal wood and metal crates are now also a valid choice if you want to optimize your storage.

My ship has a STRICTLY Avin temple theme, so I got a bit lucky, having only had Avian Chests for storage, along with my locker. recently got a "Lavish Avian Tomb" so I have a 24 to store my instruments ;p
