The title says it all, I just thought that a lot of people world be happy if we could get all our equipment back after that character wipe mentioned in the update in a few days. But I do hope that it's just character data, so we can store all our items in the ship and get them back afterwards.

....as I replied to you in another thread, a character's ship is tied to that character, it would make no sense to stash things on your ship to avoid losing them when the character is deleted.

It's incredibly unlikely that there would ever be a situation where character data needs to be reset, but not world data. If there ever was such a situation however, what you would want to do is stash items on a planet and note the coordinates to pick them up with your new character.

As to to suggestion at hand, I don't think it's the best idea. These sorts of wipes are likely going to involve very large balance changes, particularly the one coming up ahead of us, and the developers would want to see as much feedback as possible about the new system from square 1, rather than have half of their playerbase bypassing the first stages of the game and then some.

Furthermore, the motivation you are attributing to people wanting these spawned items shouldn't exist. From http://playstarbound.com/how-the-beta-is-going-to-work/

In other words, if you care so much about your characters, your worlds, and your overall progress that you are devastated at the idea of a wipe, then you should outright not be playing the beta in its current state, so sayeth the developers.

The part about the ship being tied to character, etc., is not true. My friend lost power while hosting a server and playing at the same time, and his character vanished. I think he had a backup of his ship file, which he then placed back inside the "player" folder and it worked for him.

Backing up files is a bit of a different case though, and trying to apply an outdated backup to a fresh game could cause all sorts of problems.

What I meant by my statement is that CharacterA has a different ship than CharacterB, and as such, if CharacterA gets deleted, the items on CharacterA's ship are no longer accessible through normal gameplay.
