    Item Repulsor

Foreword: As many people are aware, Starbound bears some similarities to a game known as Terraria which many of you have probably played and I myself have spent many an hour in. With the release of Terraria's most recent update, I was prompted to yet again explore the depths of that game and noticed a few things that bothered me, which I hope will not make an appearance in the much anticipated Starbound.

The Problem: One thing that has always bothered me about Terraria is that my inventory is ALWAYS full! Now this isn't so much to blame on the large variety of useful items, so much as the fact that your character picks up literally EVERYTHING in the surrounding area, even if you don't want it to. You shot a mushroom with a stray bullet? Picked up. You cut down a tree for wood? You got an acorn too. You were falling down a hole? Have some shuriken, dirt, bones, and a cheese grater (what?). You get the point.

The Solution: I propose that Starbound have an item called the "Repulsor" or "Anti-Junk Magnet". Ok, semantics may not be my strong suit but bear with me. This item would allow you to 'place' items inside of it (much like a chest) and would prevent you from picking up any more of that same item. So in order for you to get it to work, you would have to have to have picked up one of those items before. This will 'teach' the repulsor the chemical make-up of the item it needs to avoid and keep you from picking up any more of that item!

Other Suggestions: It may be that the Repulsor has limited space or types of matter that it can repulse. It could also perhaps destroy the item you put in and add it to a menu where you can later go and delete it from your Repulsor.

The latter. The item would essential memorize a list of objects that you no longer want to pick up and prevent you from doing so. It would likely just be an item that takes up a single slot as it seems like it not taking at least one space might be a bit of an imbalance.

In my opinion to be honest, I wouldn't go through all that mess to exceptionally prevent a certain Item from being picked up. You or other viewers might not agree, but to me it's no biggie. As an experienced miner from both terraria and minecraft, most of the time, after entering a cave system, I skip mining entirely. Yus, I know,I'm here for the resourses, but what I do is just clearing out the monsters and torching the hell out of the cave,so there ISN'T EVEN A SINGLE SPECK OF DARKNESS LEFT BEHIND. After that, I seal off any place that isn't warded with spare dirt blocks. Then I go up, unload all my equipment, get my mining gear, and mine it up. And fill up the mined areas with excessive dirt/stone I picked up earlier to prevent spawning of mobs. Simple. After this I do the same thing again. And again. And keep doing it until I have a automated mining capability.

This item isn't so much to prevent you from mining, as much as it would keep you from picking up random junk you don't need. I still want dirt and stone, but I could do without the 12 mud blocks I got during my escapade!

I guess I kinda went off the topic. Still, nice Idea. It would be a privliege Item for mid game players? But handy for a lot of people if they want convinence

Appreciate it. And that is indeed the purpose. It's a matter of convenience that allows players a little more control over their experience. Who wants to spend 5 minutes of their half an hour of play time dropping junk items? I know I don't ;)

Ha, I can't disagree. However, I will say that some have less uses than others and some stop being useful all together after a certain period.

I think the option to set it to items you don't want to pick up would be sweet. Maybe instead of picking up the item in that item, it just doesn't let you pick them up? (Although a vast amount of entities might cause lag? :S)

i remember when playing on terraria every time i picked up corrupted seeds i got kicked of the server so this would be nice when you are going through a field of plasma bombs (not allowed in server) and pass like nothing happened. (shouldn't have summoned cthulhu that once )
