It Has Gone On to Long

I would just like to say that my mind is being slowly eroded away out of impatience. How can the devs expect us to wait so patiently for so long a time! This thread is here as a petition for a pre-order beta to be released.
I know many of you will flame me, and hate on me, but I do not care!
Now, all you have to do is vote, and post how impatient you are.
Because seriously, if it was going to take this long, they shouldn't of announced it so early... lol

P.S. I know a lot of people are going to flame me, but please refrain.
P.S.S. This is based off a rumor I heard about a pre-order beta, so this is kinda just an attempt to force it to happen.

 

I'm impatient, but I don't think it's worth it.

 

I think it's totally worth it. Apparently the storyline is what's holding the release back, so the game will still be just as good, just no storyline to play yet. I didn't need a storyline to have fun playing terraria, so I would be just as fine playing Starbound as a pre-release beta.

 

I would rather wait to play an amazing finished game than be disappointed by a less than awesome beta version. Although i understand where you're coming from, we just have to have faith that it'll be worth this agonizing, painful, and eternal wait.

 

I see nothing wrong with the wait. There are plenty of things to do while we wait - it's not like this is the only game coming out. The more work the devs put into the game, the shinier the product we'll get.

There's no need to force a pre-order beta, which shouldn't even be called such. It's just buying an unfinished version of the game.

this is actually a fallacy. the game has still a lot of things that need work, the story thing is only something tiy said on the IRC. it was along the lines of "eventually, a possibility would be to either release the game without the story as a pre-order thing or wait for the full thing"

as such, the "release without story" is only an hypothetical option when most of the work is done, which it isint

also, we havent paid a dime, they dont owe us anything (and even if we did, terms of agreement usually make us agree that even if we pay, the dev stil ldont owe us anything )

 

People like you are the main reason there shouldn't be a beta. From the sounds of it, you have zero interest in actually helping test the game. You just want to play it.

 

Beta release =/= beta test, just sayin'. They're already doing testing, these threads are just 'we want to play what you have so far!' for the most part.

 

We're not entitled to anything. Even if they never showed any info, put it out several years from now, and listened to no advice from the community, THAT'S ENTIRELY ACCEPTABLE. It's their game, not OUR game, the only game that is OUR game is the one we buy, when it comes out, regardless of dlc or not, whether they charge a lot for it or not.

 

actually, and thats where it gets even more funny, is that with most ToA nowadays, even when we buy the game we dont own anything and arent entitled to a single pixel of what we just bough

 

It's entirely the devs' fault for giving us so much. They tease us with wallpapers, screenshots, videos, active forums with cool contests, sneak peeks into how the game is made and how it works, and they are even available in IRC from time to time. How dare they! If they only had kept the project secret from the start, we wouldn't have to suffer the wait like this!
Yup, it's entirely their fault for behaving like proper human beings, unlike so many big-name game studios to which the player is but a number.

 

Threads like these are starting to get really annoying.

 

I tend to agree with you.
The game will come when it comes.

Another issue I have with threads regarding beta is BOTH sides have really good arguments. There is a lot of evidence to shuffle through and no matter what you say somebody always has that one fact to shoot you down. It's a lose-lose argument, which is why a lot of people here tend to either maintain a neutral stance or just avoid these threads all together (Actually it is not even safe to pick a NEUTRAL stand, even if you don't pick a side you are still vulnerable to attack and opposition).

 

Betas should never be used as a preorder incentive. They are supposed to be for testing, not as a glorified demo for early buyers. Even if it's a public beta, it would be treated the same way and essentially seen by a large part of the community as the full game. People will lose interest over missing content, bugs, etc and I wouldn't be surprised if it hurt sales and shrunk the community as a result.

 

the problem is, game marketing over time has melded together into one term (beta) the act of game testing and release a game partially as a marketing move, creating confusion as to what "beta" really mean in conversation.
chucklefish is already have a "testing beta" right now, but that dosent mean that giving a full, yet story-less version of starbound as a pre-order bonus is a bad thing

edit : im mentionning storyless specifically as sandbox game in general never really needed story to make them awesome, its more of an icing on the cake

 

If they do it I'll (hopefully) play it, if they don't then I can wait.
