Ok me and a friend have been playing this since day one of Beta (Alpha) release and to be very frank we both love the game but feel you have no CLUE what you want to do at all. These are issues that were you changing the game and were fine before then changed it for the sake of "Testing"...... anyways.

Sectors - They were perfect the way they were at first it gave diversity and challenge but not it's just no point to explore cuz all planets in first sector ARE LEVEL 1 there is no point to go somewhere else other than for resources.....
Weapons - Since the sectors are now level dependant Alpha = lvl 1 means all your weapons are basically the same and again eliminating the want to search for loot. Also almost all weapons in each sector do the same stuff dmg, swing speed, again eliminating the need for new loot or searching.
Pixels/Shops - No offense but they are really useless.... why do I need money to craft something? It should be for buying items only that's it shops...... Also your shops need work the items they sell should be random not the same thing everytime (Clothing for example) it should have some vanity items in it too? Just expensive. Some very rare stuff that is like so ridiculous in price.
Optimization - Maybe you should work on some optimization while you're at it because in a multiplayer game mobs cuz the most lag I have ever seen. You literally need to have a computer just dedicated to running the server to have it work fine and not everyone can do this because they can't afford it or some other reasons. Get it optimized so it runs smoother.
Mobs Attacking - Give them random frequencies for "attacks" and cause simple being touched, as they run in your face and just crawl all over you hurting you, and when the game already freaks out when a mob sees and charges you and lags to the ground, it makes battling a bit annoying. They should jump away, recharge, etc, and also not attack by touch but by an actual initiated attack, weather because of closeness to you, or a swing interval like weapons.
Crafting - I love crafting stuff and making my home look interesting but when I have to literally find everything just to do it..... that sucks. You should add something similar to the 3D printer and a crafting bench for backwards engineering to discern what makes that item. Then you can craft it with thus items.

    EDIT:
So with further ado some people did make some really nice posts and I read them so in such removed the ones that created such a war of the posts so ya ^-^ also this line from Arkoonius said :) "Starbound is no longer in beta, but in Koala."

Which I feel is much better than fighting over Alpha, Beta, Gamma.... Radiation xD Just Koala is better.

Now with the stupid lines I put aside anything else that you guys think can be improved and added to the list of things that would later need to be updated/fixed?

I couldn't agree more with these issues. It's making me really depressed that these developers we have confined our respect and money into don't seem to know how to make a video game. :(

They call this a "Beta" but it's the exact definition of a Alpha development. Lol Confused much?

Sectors - Wait for more content to be added
    Weapons - See sectors
    Pixels/Shop - See sectors
Alpha/Beta - You seem to not understand what a beta is. This is a beta.
    Character Wipes - See Alpha/Beta + Read: http://playstarbound.com/how-the-beta-is-going-to-work/
    Optimization - It's beta.
    Descriptions - See optimization.
Terraria - Why do you care? Why does it matter? A memory editor will work on anything if it's made correctly.

Unappreciative much? Making video games is hard work. Especially a game this expansive. We're still in the first stage of beta. Complain all you want when it's finalized.

Also, while I agree with a few of the points you made, you really should word things more respectfully. People don't want to do things for you if you're rude about it.

You don't seem to know what a beta is. A beta is a finished game for BETA TESTING. To decern any optimization errors, or bugs int he programming. A ALPHA is where the game is not finished, things are changing dramatically, re-balancing systems and items. Starbound is the very DEFINITION of a Alpha. Lol

There is plenty of content. The game played just fine the way it was before.

Learn standards, we don't go by how YOUR betas work, we go by how the industry works. So no, I will not read your misconceptions of reality.

    It's not a beta.

Because we paid money for a game built from the ground up... not lies...

Lastly, if we weren't the only ones upset, the forums an website wouldn't be being ddosed into the ground currently.

I sort of agree on everything except pixels. Monsters drop pixels and you use pixels in a 3D-printer, meaning they might just be a valuable resource that everything is made up of. And it is valuable enough that others could use it and thus it is a currency as well--very similar to gold becoming a stable means of investment in our current economy despite it not actually being "money."

    1. Either people complain that they have to fight stuff and mine stuff and cannot explore or there is no reason to explore. This can be easily changed btw with a few seconds of modding.
    2. And? There has to be some limit or you would just wipe out everything anyway.
3.It is beta.. the game lacks much content right now.
    4.The definition of beta
a nearly complete prototype of a product (as software)<released in beta><the beta version>
Which means that the devs are free to call it beta as they can define nearly complete however they want.

5.Refer to 4 and get over it. They warned everyone multiple times, anyone that complained is just too lazy to read.
6.Dude.. It has been getting optimized. These kind of things sorta happen after releasing to the public in some way no matter who is making the game.
7.Refer to 4 and 3. And stop whining.
8.But all your friends said fighting was too hard. You also don't seem to know that they cannot hit you by touching anymore at all, anytime this happens is because they ARE using an attack.
9.Either wait for a creative mode or mod it.
    10. Proof?

It'd help if we didn't go through this exact same discussion AGAIN and stay on topic. Seriously. Stuff like this is for another topic.

Current Sectors: Part of a placeholder with tier progression. Will most likely see significant changes.

Weapons: More variety is needed, level of rarity needs to have a greater effect on weapon stats instead of elemental effects.

Pixels: Has been discussed plenty of times. It's the only real downside to the pixel system and frankly, it really doesn't make any sense unless they're going for something similar to the Military Grade bullets system in the Metro series where it has a good use other than currency. As for shops, I'd have to say that more options would be nice, but there are certain things you shouldn't randomly generate.

Alpha/Beta: Does it matter? The words have been twisted to the point where no one knows what's what anymore (even though it IS accurate to call this game an Alpha). Let them call it what they want. It doesn't affect anything of crucial importance.

Wipes: If you play any game before it's released, you usually expect some sort of wipe to occur. Starbound is no exception.

Optimization: Will come in time. God knows we don't need a repeat of what happened with Planetside 2.

Descriptions: Will also come in time. I don't see how this is more important than other things. *cough* Tier system *cough*

Crafting: Welcome to every game with sandbox elements. You want something to look good? You have to put in the time and effort to do so. The 3D printer already makes it easier to make buildings look great. I'd also like to add that at this stage, there are things that simply have no recipe yet. Or, you know, you can use mods or wait for a creative mode.

Terraria Clone: Okay. That doesn't necessarily mean it's a bad thing. The people who made Starbound came from Terraria.

Kind of off topic, but thanks for clearing that up. I was a little confused at first as to why the pages on this site were occasionally taking more than 20 seconds to load up.

I guess the reason behind it was a little obvious, but thanks nonetheless.

Eh the sectors before were to unbalanced, Gregory's right, if you wan't more reason to explore you can modify the game so tier 1-10 appear in the same sector but that would probably unbalance it again.

"Beta, named after the second letter of the Greek alphabet, is the software development phase following alpha. It generally ( a.k.a not always, because I know you'll try to go on this point) begins when the software is feature complete. Software in the beta phase will generally have many more bugs in it than completed software, as well as speed/performance issues and may still cause crashes or data loss. The focus of beta testing is reducing impacts to users, often incorporating usability testing. The process of delivering a beta version to the users is called beta release and this is typically the first time that the software is available outside of the organization that developed it."

You make moot points, assuming that just because one company releases a beta a certain way, it means that every beta there-after will have to be released the same exact way. There are standards, sure, but this is Chucklefishs Starbound beta. Not yours. They could of called this phase omega, who the hell cares what it's called. It is what it is. You paid money, yeah, and you're still going to receive Starbound in it's final form. You are the one choosing to play it in it's unfinished state - during it's beta.

    1) Your thread title is hilariously presumptive and entitled. Who are you to say any of your concerns 'need' to be addressed? Are you designing the game? Didn't think so.

Most of your concerns could be answered if you'd done a little reading before making this post, but since it's obvious you haven't, here goes.

    2) The current sector system is a placeholder, as is apparently most of the loot and ore distribution. Currently the system does not encourage exploration or traveling, no, but don't assume because that's how the system is NOW, that's how it's going to stay.

    3) Read above. Most of the systems are not complete or balanced, because this is a beta.

    4) Requiring pixels to craft ensures you actually play the game rather than just grind out materials and ignore mobs and jump up to higher armor tiers immediately. It adds progression and longevity to the game.

    5) Betas are traditionally unfinished games getting their first published 'exposure'. Like... this one! Betas have been twisted by the 'open beta' models of MMO games, which aren't betas and are more like stress tests. Beta tests are for 'public' players to get their hands on an unfinished game and test it.

    6) There's a big shiny red warning on the launcher stating there will probably be character wipes. Lrn2reading

    7) Optimization is part of a *gasp* beta.

    8) I'm sorry that you think unfinished content in a beta is stupid. Maybe come back when the game is complete?

    9) Maybe don't facetank mobs?

    10) This is probably the only good idea in your entire post. Unfortunately it actually adds a crapton of extra work to make every item in the game craftable. Still a good idea, though.

    11) The games are both block-based games. I wouldn't be all that surprised if the frameworks are similar. This is a common thing with a lot of games that don't have a completely custom engine.

I just want to say, that from my understanding there are a ton more features already developed for the game that are currently disabled.

It is a beta, they're just turning on the lights bit by bit for testing while adding new things based on user feedback.

Is this a suggestion of yours (which should have gone into the suggestion forums), or is it a request for support (which should have gone into the support forums)? It obviously isn't a general discussion topic as you're either asking for support, or you are making suggestions. You aren't really asking for a general discussion, that's for sure. So, which is it?

Werent they going to do something with weak, average, strong mobs by the way? Perhaps they want to annote planets as easy, medium, hard relative to their respective sector. That would work aswell. Easy = no gear, medium = copper, hard = iron. If we apply it to the alpha sector ofcourse.
This would work just fine in my opinion, and splitting planets up in a scale of 1-10 does seem a bit redundant.

Now pixels is actually a rather interesting topic to discuss in my opinion and i strongly believe they looked closely at Terraria and said "how can we improve that?". For those unaware, in Terraria you get gold drops (copper, silver, gold, platinum). And if you die you drop 50% of your gold.
However, gold didnt really serve much of a purpose in Terraria. You bought a few things, and you could store gold. So as a death penalty it was very weak as you rarely ever cared about gold. Also, gold would just accumulate and accumulate and some late game vendor items needed very high cost because of this.

I think Starbound does it better. By making pixels both a currency and an ingredient. Even when not dealing with vendors its an important resource. This means you care about losing it or not, and as is evident by several posts where people ask for reducing or removing the penalty of pixel loss, it seems people do really care.
It also means you get a more fluent transition in income vs expenses. And additionally, through mechanics such as a refinery you can turn otherwise useless ores and bars into a usefull resource. So something like Copper is never truely useless, as you can always mine it and turn it into pixels.
