That said, no emnity in the direction of the devs. As frustrating as it is for players, it is always ever more so for the people sticking the game together with spit and baling wire until problems can be nailed down properly
You don't do full test passes on what are essentially internal releases which just happen to be for public consumption. That would be extremely time-consuming. That's also why beta access is a perk for pre-ordering, not the object of the pre-order.
If really everyone is truly upset about this update, you can always access your steam folder, games list, right click starbound, go to it's properties and turn off automatic update. Also, there is a mod out there that allows players to build/place/craft/ making anything in the entire game. Forget the exact name of it, but it has 3 computer screens blue green and red that let you make anything in the game. If you are all really that upset about losing your stuff, download this mode, remake everything. then uninstall it. problem fixed.
Well, for that matter, one could just use Starcheat. It's not a matter of being able to add the objects back, but accurately reproducing from memory what you had to begin with. Personally, when I have to do something like that in a game, I try to keep it as legit to what was there to begin with. With such wide-sweeping erasure, that's a bit difficult to do when one has a sizeable stockpile.
Why would you want to stay in a broken version? That suggestion doesn't help those that hate the new version... it just keeps them in it longer. I'd like the option to rollback to playable version and keep installs of multiple versions around. I can backup saves and respawn lost stuff with any number of cheaty mods, but I can't make broken features work or return to the relative stability of previous versions. Servers ran best 2 versions ago before the dreaded 'segfault' was introduced. This version replaces segfault with a whole host of new, more common, crashes. The segfaults might even still be there, but never getting the chance to happen because the newer crashes are hitting first. Maybe it will get hotfixed out, but I have very little faith they'll get it together any time soon. It will take months to spin up new staff and every update makes the game worse engine-wise. Give us the option to play the game when it was at its best. If they give us file structures for each version, we can even make tools to translate between versions.
well for starters, my suggestion was for future reference such as: not having it automatically update allows you see to see what is to come of the next patch. this allows you to decide when to update. Like for myself, since I'm still in furious version, soon as they fix the bugs for enraged, I'll update my client. This will allow me to keep everything that I've obtained in game. Instead of losing it.
Because implementing features, even minor ones like the one you mentioned, is not helping shape the final product. Never said I would prefer anything except expediency and efficiency in terminating the beta process.
I am also advocating "expediency and efficiency in terminating the beta process", however, we are disagreeing on the methods of doing so. Therefore, would you care to elaborate on why the ability to "easily recreate scenarios that cause bugs" is not conducive to "helping shape the final product"?
Ahh okay, had no idea. And I agree, I'm fine with a wipe, but this kinda sucks. Luckily I haven't loaded up Starbound at all yet, so I'm just waiting it out...
Hey guys, I verified my game cache or whatever without deleting any of my files and I can play fine now. Ships in it's most recent state and so is Kelp Butt. My home planet is structurally fine, last buildings and crate rooms all still there, but I'm still getting an extreme amount of lag when by the crates/lockers. Edit: I have apparently lied. Everything worked until I tried to pilot my ship again, and now I am once again trapped within the error loop. The trick of deleting the files and then verifying does not work either.
Did you delete every game file in your starbound folder? That is the only way. You can't simply delete your character files or the universe files. Backup your character data then delete all the files and ensure that the game is not running (including the launcher). Finally, verify the game cache and it should reinstall all the files. Place your backed-up character data back into the appropriate folder and give it a shot. I lost my universe data to this string of errors, but I got to keep my character. Only problem is getting back to Delta Sector, but it's better than starting from square one.
I did exactly that, but steam wont re-create the files. It just keeps saying it was successful while doing nothing.
Once you delete stuff in your Starbound folder (backup "player", "universe", and "mods"), right-click Starbound in the Steam client, and click "Delete Local Content". While you deleted the files, and Steam telling itself it deleted the launcher, attempting reinstall through Steam SHOULD work. It's how I did it anyways.
Thank you! I was manually deleting it, so I must have been doing it wrong. All I backed was my player, since I had everything I wanted to keep on her, so now I can have the look I want, a new home planet, and no boob armor! I was so worried my game was broke forever, hahah.
You will need to do what LordLyciaX stated, or at least make sure that you are turning off the client and everything. I had a similar problem because I wasn't shutting down the launcher and it thought the game was still running, so it didn't change anything.
Hello. Does anyone with a dedicated server having some disconnects? Since I updating to this last fix sometimes we disconnect, dunno why. Thanks.
Aww yeah. Backup was made at the right time. V.4Enraged hotix has all my content back. Gaming goodness. ...Laggy, nigh unplayable gaming goodness, but gaming goodness regardless.
