Money may not be the main issue here and all people playing are well aware that this is Beta and can bring errors... but destroying with a patch the very thing that was supposed to be safe is.... just bad luck. Can't blame anyone who will say there is no point playing right now anymore, until it is more stable.
So, did the hotfix fix this glitch yet? I haven't played yet, and I want to know if I should back up the files or not yet.
Stable or not, I shall continue playing! If losing everything means fixing errors and bugs so that the future Starbound will be hassle-free, so be it! Just think of it like a natural disaster. You accidentally flew your spaceship right into a black hole. Feel bad, but then pick yourself up and start all over again. A clean slate and a fresh start isn't always a bad thing!
I started playing after the hotfix and the error was there - so maybe it's not a bad idea to backup your files. Which I did not. Unfortunately.
Non-issue if you just want to play on a new character. I would recommend that nobody get too attached to a character right now, just saying.
Heh. I just think of it as "virtual reincarnation"- make the same little old human "me", starting over in another life. Each new big-ol update, I grow one generation wiser... or so I imagine. The Dali-Redhead
just 2 late. 1/3rd of the containers gone and ALL seeds that I stored in the shiplocker. and of course the chest with the collected techs is gone too, and my pig nadethrower. Just everything of common randomcrap is still there. i feel like space pirates came at night. I woudl really like to see an autobackup option implemented where at the beginnign ebofre every patch, the game just copies the old saves into a second backup folder. Otherwise it's time to write a script on my own that everytime i shut down my pc does backup the folders by its own. But this is quite not how your testers should deal with it. And how do i get my shipslocker back? The shipslocker is an unremovebale thing normally whcih brings some kind of griefing protection. But now its simply gone.
So my game is completely broken, since my ship can no longer function as a ship without it's ship containers. Same for my wife. The worst thing was losing my entire collection of seeds, which included just about every seed in the game and accompanying crop. I think I'm done with this game. Might pick it up again once it is out of beta but I'm felling pretty burned on this and I just don't have time for frustration in my recreation. Between working full time, pursuing a masters, and being a dad I don't get much free time. My last bit of advice to ChuckleFish is that you should have the save files be in the user directory, such as under My Games. Had you done that my nightly backups would have backed up my world. As it is, who backs up their steamapps directory?
Same here-- I started playing long after the hotfix, and stuff is disappearing while I play. Should have backed up
Not sure if this is an issue that has been brought up yet or what, but it seems I cannot set any planet as my home since the update.
@Armor tech it's an engine feature they've put into the game. i don't think there's any content attached to it yet.
if i could just get my locker back, i'd be willing to keep playing my current character... i lost good stuff, but i can get it all back... but the locker itself... that's valuable storage space.
When you feel bad about yourself, just look at how this person is probably feeling. http://imgur.com/r/starbound/p5oecZy
I disabled Steam auto-updates until further notice, and am running the entire Starbound folder from a backup (meaning I'm running the slightly older version of Enraged Koala that required me to remove my bed and then put it back (which fixed the non-interactive bed problem.) Are you going to be able to fix the container issue next patch, or am I going to lose my ship and containers despite my efforts?
