It doesn't matter whether he's a troll or not. There's nothing wrong about discussing the subject.

It's an utterly pointless subject that accomplished absolutely nothing and has nothing to do with Starbound, it doesn't belong in the General Discussion area.

I, many others, and two of the devs would disagree with you there it seems.
    Krylo summed it up nicely.

Doesn't change the fact that it this 'topic' has nothing to do with Starbound, you want to have a cute little discussion like this, do it in Chat.

Hypothetical question based on what I read on first post (slightly off topic)
How would one interbreed with a species that had, say for arguments sake...6 genders?

Well, first you'd find out how on Yahoo Answers, then proceed as directed. What could possibly go wrong?

The easiest way would be.. with a virus. After all there is 6 times more virus DNA than human-specific DNA in our genomes. And there are more bacteria in our bodies than there are human cells, and it's been discovered those bacteria have a say in our emotions and our personalities and the wiring of our brains! Interchange of bacteria and viruses would allow some degree of hybridisation and with a genetically engineered virus your hypothetical hybridisation could be much more easily accomplished.

That's not breeding, that's infection. And "6 times more virus DNA than human-specific DNA" completely misunderstands the nature of non-coding DNA, which still play critical roles in gene regulation despite not coding for proteins. Furthermore, no virus could possibly carry enough DNA to create a "hybrid", because if they did they'd be too big to infect a cell. What you're suggesting is little more than gene therapy, which has already been done and can only insert a few genes.

The number of genders a species has has very little to do with a theoretical hybrid of that species. What matters is the nature and resilience of their structure. Plants, for example, can freely hybridize with other plants, and in such cases the chromosomes from both parents will manifest without killing the host. But if you tried that with almost any animal species, it would never develop past an embryo, if it even got that far. This is because plants are far less dependent on having a very specific pattern of gene activation and protein generation to create a viable organism, whereas animals are. Plants are simpler, more adaptable, more resilient, and a lot tougher than animals. Shoot an elephant with a rifle and it dies, shoot an oak tree with a rifle and it will continue living quite merrily.

It's not inconceivable that there could be an alien species that could hybridize with other species, but the basic functions of their bodies would have to be very simple and adaptable. If you're looking at brains, hearts, and lungs, then it's probably not happening outside of very good biological engineering.

Could you make sense please? You sound like those idiots that would call others racist for not voting for Obama or sexist for not voting for Hillary. I'm stating that this discussion doesn't actually have anything to do with Starbound, but apparently that makes me racist.

I think the best part is the fact that OP made an account, made this thread, then just sat back with some popcorn and watched it all go to shit. While I do see some people discussing the topic in a serious manner, some people are shitposting and others are trying to troll, I'm going to simply close this thread.

    END OF DISCUSSION.
