Is this game a successor to the mobile game:Ancient Empires?

I played Ancient Empires 2 on my java phone many years ago. I think it's the best strategy game I've ever played on mobile. The moment I saw Wargroove trailer I realized that it's just what I knew. Seeing that Chucklefish is also located in London UK, the same as Macrospace(maker of Ancient Empires series). Maybe some of you are from Macrospace? Really glad to see your comeback, just like an old friend.

 

In sense of the turn based tactics YES. As for being inspired by Ancient Empires I couldn't say, however there was a press release saying that Wargroove was somewhat inspired by the Nintendo franchise advance wars http://www.pcgamer.com/starbreeze-reveals-wargroove-the-spiritual-successor-to-advance-wars/

I have searched for the game I played on java phone for years. And when I found Wargroove, I knew that it is kinda like that old games, but I still can't find its name.
