Is there only 10 levels of content?

Hey guys! I just got this game yesterday. Its everything Terraria should have been, and 5x more. Loving it so far.

I'm just wondering though, whats the progression system? On the starter planet, I minned down until i got a ton of iron, plenty of silver and even some gold, then made me a iron sword, and some silver armor.

Since it doesnt seem i can build better items, I've just gone around grabbing up chests on threat level 8 or so planets. Level 5's are way too easy, and frankly dont give me anything worth while it seems.

So, I need to ask... Does this game only go up to level 10 or something? What do i do once i get some good armor piercing 10 weapons? The game already feels kinda... easy. I mean, i just left my starter planet and went straight to a 5, spent maybe 20 minutes there, and went to a lvl 8 planet that felt more appropriately challenging.

Please tell me though, that heres more content down the road? I've barely played for a day and its already feeling like a breeze. This game seems like it could be so deep, but right now i'm not seeing it.

So how do things progress down the road? Is what I'm seeing basically it?

    Thanks in advance.

Yes, but your char is deleted every time you quit, which extend the the life time of this by a lot.
Try to reconnect to the game, your char is deleted.

The first sector only goes up to level 10. There are other sectors, but to progress, you need to kill the bosses.

there is more content down the road. every time you defeat a boss a new sector of space is opened up. at the start you only got access to 1-10 planets. after defeating the first boss and creating the galaxy map upgrade you get 11-20.

edit: before the wipe i was at lvl 30 planets myself but there where people doing lvl 80-90 things iirc

The current easiness is due to an oversight in the latest patch. There are 10 tiers of armours, and around 20-or-so different weapon building materials. Durasteel, Vibrosium, Impervium... All of this already exists... you just need to look a little harder.

The planets (as of the last time you played) went up to threat level 100, you have to unlock the ability to travel to systems with higher threat levels.
Since the most recent update, however, the balance system is being reworked. Last I heard there are now 10 threat levels assigned to each of the sectors, rather than to planets and the AP system is being done away with in favor of more transparent pure damage values. See the dev posts for more detailed info.
Point is, yes, there's more content. You have to unlock it. The Distress Beacon is your first step.

Actually, in Irritated it only went up to 40.

There is the same amount of content, it's just based on 10 levels instead of 100 now.

Wow okay! I didnt realize I was only looking at a fraction of what the game possesses.

So whats this about it being based off of 10 levels? I read that in the dev note, i think it was the right one. The huge rebalance thats taking awhile yea?

Wont that make game seem... shallower? As in fewer variance in difficulty when roaming around. Unless its some how tiered in between each level, wouldnt 10 levels (that used to be 100) see huge jumps each time you went up to the next level of mobs? Further, wouldnt that make it so there were only 10 tiers of equipment? That sounds limiting compared to gear that could (potentially) vary in strength across 100 levels.

Forgive me if this is just a newbies misperception, thats just what it sounds like to me. I'm still new and dont quite know how all this works. The upgrade path seems very linear at the moment though, so it gives an impression.

There were only 10 tiers of equipment before... And let me be the first to say, only a very small fraction of the people here ever got to Impervium in the five or so days the game has been out. Thank you for your humility, it will take you very far in life, mate. The upgrades don't branch at all, you're right. A so-called 'newbies' perspective is the only perspective where what we take as normal is a little odd. What would the game be like if weapons branched out upgrade-wise into different leaves with different situational attributes? It'd add a lot of depth.

The sectors are now labeled levels 1-10, the enemies are easy/medium/hard, hard being the weakest of the next sector.

The game is projected to have a total of ten steps with ten sectors at release.

Rather than 10 steps of ten levels per sector, each sector is just a single level. There's no current indicator of what is an easy or difficult planet. A level 1 or level 10 planet in the last version is just referred to as level 1 in the version that was just released. The difference is that weapons now have a flat damage given to them rather than a damage based on the level of the planet that made the value of equipment difficult to determine.

The end result is no difference in difficulty per sector but a lot of complicated formulas were cut out of the loop to make things easier understand.

I wonder if I'm the only one who understood that armor penetration meant 'level' in Irritated. It wasn't that difficult.
