last time i played was back in december 2013 when they had just added the fourth tier boss. i quit because i was playing a lot and didnt want to burn out on it, and i decided to wait until they implemented more actual game progression to play again.

looking through the various patch notes on the homepage, it doesnt look like they've added anything else in terms of the actual game's progression, i.e. tiers 5-10, since i played last, i was surprised. did i miss something?

all i see are a few paragraphs discussing 'future' plans for progression. i dont understand why more types of weather and adding mods to the base game (which we could just do ourselves if we wanted) seem to be higher priorities than developing the base game which is not even half-finished, or making it more like "the game we want" http://community.playstarbound.com/index.php?threads/the-game-we-want.48657/ which eloquently spells out exactly how i imagined the space exploration aspect of this game. as it is now, there is no space exploration, its just a menu with planet seeds. implementing some of the ideas in that thread would go a hell of a long way to making the space exploration aspect, well, existent.

im only posting because i want this game to be good. but soon enough there are gonna be more Castletroidcrafts out there trying to grab our attention and leave this game in the dust. im wondering when more of the game is gonna be ready- been wondering for months

To be fair, hazardous weather is one of the things on the list you linked to in your post. So hazardous weather is making the game more like the game we want, which should explain why more types of weather is a priority for the game. I'd like more progression too, and it has been stated a few times in various "This is where the game is going" posts/blog updates that planetary hazards will play a part in progression once things get more solidified. As for the rest, I can't rush the team and I'm content to wait and see the rest of what they are working on at their pace.

The game is still an empty, lonely, incomplete sandbox. I've given it a month or so, but at the rate development's proceeding, I think we may need to wait a few years before the final version rolls along.

Content is part of the base game. This adds more colorful perspective to the game.

There is technically no way to beat the game, which is endless. More to the game than from point A to point B like the original mario brothers.

If they don't add content and just add mechanics then it would look like a game of chess only using pawns, where you can not see all the moves that you can do as it is only one figure and only 1 move. Adding variety in content makes the rest of the board more depth, even if not noticeable at this time. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder after all...

Right now I am glad they are doing what they are doing, While a portion of the team is working on content, the other portion is working on the actual internal stuff. So I don't quite understand the point in the OP... This is what I think... individuals in the team only know so much, so they do what they do know best and that helps the team overall in the end.

If you can't think long term then my post probably doesn't mean anything at all...Just a guess...><

I've honestly been disappointed with the fast and heavy updates not being fast, or heavy. That said there is still a lot of ground work to be done so I've remained patient at this point. I've stopped playing for the most part and check the site now and then for updates. I probably won't be playing until at least stage 3 again.

You're not alone. I have to remind myself of the typical demographic that these types of games appeal to and just stay patient while I see posts like "Are we there yet?" or "It will get done when it's done." The fact of the matter is, I, like many, jumped on the Early Access release in DEC, enjoyed the game after being heavily into Terraria, and saw there really wasn't much "game" to be had yet in Starbound. The last/final character wipe brought me back and I've since enjoyed my time again, but it is Mid March and really little has changed since DEC. The updates are very slow for a game that was expressed to have quick and heavy updating. You'll typically see apologists in most posts but the participation numbers seemed to have dropped quite a bit from topic creations and sub-Reddit activity.

I'm not putting the blame on Starbound/Chucklefish, but SB is certainly my last Early Access purchase, and there is more outspoken criticism against Early Access from industry mouthpieces and prominent community bloggers. Suffice it to say, I expected a more advanced-in-development game in DEC, saw it was actually very hollow, and accepted that time would be required to see the updates into making the game more complete. I was pleasantly hopeful that large sweeping changes would be coming in over the months and I would be able to participate in these "quick and heavy" changes, but that hasn't been the case "yet". Chucklefish's phase planning and related information looked good in DEC, but seeing that they've been everything but what they claimed during the start of Early Access has dashed away my enthusiasm for the game. Now, if the game released in 2016 (Heck, it just might by how slow development has been so far) it would not surprise me or bother me.

As a veteran of gaming over the decades, Starbound certainly lands in the "Alpha" side of development and not the "Beta" that its being touted as. Strangely enough, minus the asset content, the game performs worse than it did in DEC.

Hang in there, those who have been checking the website weekly for any semblance of progression to any of Starbound's "core" gameplay components, but don't hold your breath. If you're not adverse to modding, the modding community has lightly filled in that massive void that adds much needed depth to what is presently a procedural space sandbox, but there's still a ton of work to be done.

If you guys are looking for ways to keep Starbound fresh, try a roleplaying server. I find that RP is a good way to enjoy playing Starbound without necessarily needing content updates from the developers, since "content" can be made by the RPers themselves.

But if RP isn't your thing, taking a break is never a bad idea. There are many great games lined up at the moment; Dark Souls II was just released on consoles, GDC starts tomorrow, and several new MMORPGS (Wildstar, ESO) should be launching soon. There's plenty of games to keep yourself entertained while you wait for updates. The cool thing is that you've already paid for the game, so when more updates happen and you come to back to play again, it'll feel like a fresh game and you won't have spent any extra money! =D

Guys, I feel what you are saying. But topics like this aren't going to speed things up. They're just going to show the busy little developers what a tough crowd is over here.

I believe that It should be normal, as the game increases in complexity, that features become harder and harder to be implemented, and updates having more of the features that are easier to implement ( like new types of weather ) and less of the big ones (better quests, increased game depth).

Early access alpha is just what it is. While mods do fill in the gaps beautifully, it's not like anyone said that you're going to get a complete game right now.

BTW, Devs if you are reading this, you should easily tell from the mod popularity what's on our priority list.

The game will absolutely not release before mid 2015, that's what I think.

Starbounds release was in Pre-Alpha at best. Most games beta stages have most of there mechanics and features implemented. Starbound didn't even have a solid foundation of progression. and still doesn't. They can add 10,000 objects to the game and it will still not change the core gameplay elements. Combat, Player Progression, Rp Elements,
Enemy AI, Building Mechanics, those are sort of things the devs should be pushing out while adding in small bits of content. Not worrying about hats and
shit.. Estimated Final release Late 2015.

That's a little harsh, I agree some what. In my opinion they should have kept wipes, not allowed mods till vanilla was fully balanced, and waited on multiplayer. But still it's not like the game is doomed it has taken a longer path but hopefully it turns out rad by the time it turns gold.

Actually mod's and multiplayer is what attracts about 35%-40% of the player-base to game's.... Starbound wouldn't be what it is today without that kind of community & support, Youtuber's would look at it, say it's good and move on, most wouldn't stick like they have. Aswell you can only do soo much in single player... Like look at project zomboid for example, Had the same popularity as starbound, but, no multiplayer or anything, but had lot's of youtuber's looking at it, but they lost all that popularity because there wasn't anything to keep them in the spotlight, starbound, is keeping that spotlight by keeping you here with not only new content, but also bug fixes while they sort out exactly how they want the game to work.
What is most likely gonna happen: Adding content for now, then when it comes time to add in what they want exactly, they will change the code, but until then, just enjoy the hat's and stuff. Aswell tbh, hat's take like 2 minute's to create, 5 AT MAX. so if your complaining about a HAT, you need to rethink your life...

We can only hope. Remember every game has a deadline. And if the devs dont start dealing with the major concepts of Starbound we will see a failed project and the modding community we have to clean up their mess..

Well deadlines are placed by the publisher and they are the publisher so there is no real deadline.

Yes people like mods, I only stated what I would have done, they can make the game any way they want and I have no problem with new hats, the guy I responded to does.

You can either find ways to enjoy the game or find ways to be bitter.

    I choose the former. =)
