Is there certain worlds to find gold easily on?

I know there are certain worlds for silver and platinum, but I need gold...anyone got a world for me?

Some people claim digging to the core on the starter world is the way to go. Thus far I've had the most luck just running around random planets collecting chests on the surface, at least in alpha sector. Spent a couple hours trying to mine for it but it's so rare that it isn't really worth it. I'm getting one shot in beta with steel chest/greaves and a leather helmet, so I can't say if gold is more abundant there.

Desert planets are the best imo, simply because as you get lower you get a wide mix of ore inside the sand, and as we know, sand will cause landslides. The trick to this is that embeded ore in a landslide becomes 'dropped ore' - meaning it can be collected without mining it.

Since sand is fast and easy to mine, and the ride is amusing, I find going for burst farming in deserts is the best way to collect ore. Second best is hitting a snow planet and working the surface because ore shows up really easy on snow biomes.

And the bonus for both of these methods is that sand and snow are very easy to mine, avoiding cobblestone.

I will second the desert mining. Also works well on moon worlds mining moondust. Keep in mind it is fine sand that slides, regular sand and sandstone do not.

Does gold ore typically spawn high enough to be in sand, though? I've seen lots of iron, copper, and occasionally silver in the sand on desert planets, but never gold. Gold has always been down deeper where the cobble/magmastone is located.

Well I'm sure it depends on the planet. I've been to a desert with almost nothing but gold and coal in the fine sand (few and far between).

I have also never seen gold, and I found an extremely big pack of fine sand once.

    and you mean obsidian? :p

There is gravel/sand deep enough for gold in some areas, I usually just hollow out as much of it as I can and then head back and filter out my goods, gold is usually in there.

Depends on the threat of the planet. I didn't see any gold until about threat 6 on desert planets.

No, there's a rock called magmastone or lavastone or something similar that spawns close to the core. I've never seen obsidian yet.

EDIT: Magmarock. It takes forever to mine with a Silver Pick, too. My attempts at mining for gold have been pure suffering so far. Hopefully the desert thing works out.

Takes a long time, even to mine with a diamond pickaxe as well. It is just tough stone.
