Is there a way to make a room airtight?

    Probably a dumb question, but is there a way, currently, to make a room air tight. Such as on an asteroid so you can take off your helm or backpack in your base:?

    In a word: No.

    I can look at scripting an item that gives the "breath protection" buff as an AoE but right now, it's non-existent.

    Would be nice if a building was made using advanced blocks (i.e. metal-based blocks) and it was totally enclosed with the proper kind of door then you could have a room/building with atmosphere, like your ship. Hopefully this is in the works.

    I would love to make some sort of space/asteroid base with actual airlocks. This needs to be a thing.

    I have yet to play since the new patch came out. Is there gravity on asteroids? I'm assuming there is and it's probably pretty low.

    Yeah they put low gravity one asteroids... and on some random planet too.

    Use it the same way a campfire would. Like this:

    Code:
    "statusEffects" : [
      {
      "kind" : "breathprotection",
      "amount" : 70,
      "range" : 20
      }
      ]

    I've now begun to experiment with a mod, using clear water as 'air'. It does have:
    "breathable" : "default"
    and
    "ontouchStatusEffects" : []
    so I think this will work but I will find out. (Making an object dispense endless 'water' is the easy part so I'll let you know if it works.)

    My question was the inspiration for a mod? I'm honored. Make sure to get my good side when crafting a monument to my greatness! ;)

    But when you finish it, please send me a link, I would love to try it out!

    Especially since asteroid fields have abandoned mining bases. Found quite a few yesterday.

    I think the issue is that all liquids automagically make you act like you're swimming. If you can overcome that, it'd be great!

    I am almost done with my oxystones, though - I just need to come up with dialogue and a "proper" recipe (right now, they just cost a camp fire; I was thinking like 5 glass?) and they should work!

    +1 t'would be awesome to make space bases on asteroids...

    I know it's not as awesome as @Synthlight's idea, but Oxystones are here for you until his way-better-idea is done! http://community.playstarbound.com/index.php?resources/oxystones.606/

    Well, it works, sort of.
    I cannot overcome the fact that the game treats it like a liquid in that you must swim and it deadens sound and such.
    It does however provide 'air' and heat so long as you are touching it. (Kinda exactly like how poison works.)

    Pros:
    • The status effect works.
    • It obeys the laws of fluid dynamics and will fill the room.
    • It's invisible.
    Cons:
    • You must swim.
    • Deadens sound.
    Here is the mod as it exists now. (Be aware that I had to overwrite the full liquid.config. The _merge[] wasn't working right for some reason. The only change to the file is liquid '8' at the end.)

    EDIT: I suppose the best way to use this right now is to just make a small 1block high thickness of it. This will allow you to walk in it without it feeling like water. (Think of those tiny pockets of lava/poison; yup, just like that.)

    It's copied from the light-sensor as a base. Power it to have it emit air.

    At this point I think I've done all I can and will probably release it in the mod section later. I'll probably not do anything more till I after christmas.
    Thanks for the praise but I don't think this is going to go anywhere till a dev adds a way to ignore the movement effects of water. Hopefully I can catch the eye of one with this mod and that will make it into the next version.

    Yeah, someone else I know was trying to do something sorta like a bacta tank fluid but ran into the exact same issues. Fluids right now are crazy restricted/hard to tweak.

    Still, though, awesome work all the same. ^^

    This so much, base would have a door, door closes, you find yourself in a little room, with one of those bunker fans, fan kicks in, room fills with O2. There you go, door into the main hall opens. I would love to see a use for many of the decoration blocks, like the bunker fan.

    I originally thought when I saw some of the ateriod outpost that there was some kind of airlock system, since they had two spaceship doors. You go in one set, air floods in, you go out the other, and visa versa. Now that would be awesome.
