It's more about paying for a license or service, but the point remains. I pay for a fishing license so that I can legally catch fish if I want, I pay for data usage and internet access because maintaining those things aren't free, and I pay for games because I'm purchasing something that took a lot of effort to create, and I want to support fiurther development costs and help maintain the developer. It's not so much about something being missing, so much as someone who worked to create something not being paid when another person acquires it illegally.

EDIT: Although I can see we won't agree, so it may be best to continue this through PMs or drop it entirely so as not to spark a flame-war.

Honestly i'm not gonna sit here and lie and say i never pirated a game before because honestly most of the games i have pirated before turned out to be terrible anyway and were uninstalled but Starbound is just one of those great games that is so worth the money it's only 15$ and you get so much there is no point to pirate a game this great but we all know it's still gonna happen hopefully the people who do pirate it grow to love the game and end up buying it.

    I'm going to be honest:

I will pirate Starbound before i buy it. To see if i like it at all.
Cracked Games are better Demos for me - if i like the game i will buy it. (Except EA Games i would never buy EA Games.)

Before the hate starts: I'm sure Starbound will be a great game and I think i will not regret to buy it after my 'tests'.

PC gaming will never die, the day pc gaming dies is the day gaming dies. You don't create games on a console.
Anyways, yes, i do think this game will be pirated. All games are.

I used to play cracked games to test it, if there's a lack of a demo. I did this to see if I could run the game on my laptop, but I have a gaming PC now. It's much better.

Everything gets pirated even games that try to stop piracy like Sims City, they put a DRM on the game that everyone hated and people still found a way to pirate the game and remove the DRM. But I don't think pirating would get rid of PC gaming because if a lot of people start pirating a game that game will get a lot of attention and more people might be interested in it and therefor potentially increasing the sales of that specific game much like what happened with Game of Thrones, enough people pirated it and now its the most popular show and the creators of the show took it as a compliment and said they would rather have a bunch of people pirate their show rather than winning an Oscar.

I usually have to wait on Steam deals, that's not to say I haven't done my share of warez.

I'm always on the look out for multiplayer games to play with my kids and it can get expensive buying multiple copies. (I wanted to give Borderlands 2 a shot when it came out, but $240 for 4 copies...eh...) And its trial-and-error to see if its even a game we'll stick with for a long while - that's why I'm loving sandbox games now.

But for 45$ (bought the 4-pack) if Starbound goes beyond the scope of Terraria, even a little, (it'll go faaar beyond), it was a no-brainer purchase.

Pirating has good and bad benefits. In the good part of it, it will make more people buy it. On the other hand people will still pirate it without wanting to pay for it.
