It's already been done and been done many times before, what's your point?

I got two cookies :cookie::cookie:, if that doesn't suffice maybe something else will?

I'd be skeptical of claims that it hasn't been pirated - as far as I'm aware, there is still no DRM which has stopped pirates.

That aside, I'd be interested in how many potential customers didn't buy because of the DRM. I was certainly interested until I heard about the DRM, so I would class myself as a lost sale. And that's the problem with DRM - you are driving away at least some of your potential legitimate paying customers when you use it. And I haven't seen anything to suggest that it is worth the loss of any customers.

There are no successful pirate cases of D3. They have to emulate massive parts of the game because so much of it is server side. It was emulated successfully up to the stages it was in for Beta (up to Leoric.)

I've heard a few other success stories with DRM, I'll have to look them up. There are also some various other things that aren't pirated simply because there's little to no demand for them.

I'll take your word for it then. However, my question about lost customers remains: Was it worth it? :)

The solution to D3 was not DRM, that got broken easily, the solution was that the randomness of the loot is determined by the server. So they pirated D3 as a whole, but the loot was/is still a problem. I acually followed a little the "development" of the pirates on the matter, this made me buy the game, play once and regret buying. Point to Blizzard, I suppose.

Anyway, about the topic, it is going to be pirated, but depending on the frequency of the update, the piracy will not be really worth it. One would have to check the torrents/sites/whatever more than once a day and download the game every time, probably they would even skip some updates due to frequency. One more reason to go with Steam Early Access.

I pretty much pirate games, but Starbound is a game that in my opinion desn't deserve to be pirated.I would support the devs,if I had money.I'm kinda forced to pirate the game or rob a bank instead.

What's there to discuss? Of course this game will be pirated. Piracy is literally impossible to prevent.

What the devs think is their game will be pirated, but they hope it's not going to harm them in the long-run. With almost 2mil in preorders I don't think they need to worry about piracy to begin with though, the game is already a huge success.

Why make thred to which you already know the answer. Just make sure you have integrity and buy because they deserve the money for making such a great game.

Can we all please stop using the "I can't afford it" excuse? I mean really, you can come up with a better excuse for stealing things.

I mean hey, at least it's a reason. Rather than not being able to afford a good that is a luxury item.

That is pathetic. Excuse me for being blunt but If you can't fork out $15 then you don't deserve to play the game. Saying you can't afford it is just a cop out. So if a car is too expensive do you steal it cuz you can't afford it. Starbound is a luxury item can't afford it? Then don't buy it.

And pirating a good made solely for entertainment because you cannot afford it makes no sense to me.

Actually it does if you think about it, mostly because the "good" has near infinite copies
