Is the epic music just too much?

No, it's good to know when you're in combat. If you don't like it, you can always mute it?

honestly, I was expecting to hear something terraria-like in this game, given the art style and all
but the epic music was surprising, in a good way
so no, it's not too much at all
although it does feel a bit strange when you're having 2 seconds long skirmishes with easy mobs with such epic music playing in the background

    Can you even read?

"It's good to know when you're in combat"? For half a second? And then 500 time sthat in the next 2 hours because you're exploring a lower level planet?

Oh yeah, totally forgot to mention that. I'm not using my headphones for Starbound for this precise reason. The first time my ears were blown I switched it to external speakers.

Totally support that idea! Some music variety adds a lot to the experience.

I still think they should still have a system in place to prevent it from playing against enemies which are 9-10 levels below you.

    Thank you sir.

It appears you're one of the first to comment "no, it's ok" who actually read the post instead of just assuming things from the title.

I agree with that, no reason for epic music if I one shot something.

    At least there's some variety.

Terraria's overworld theme haunts me in my nightmares.

^I don't mind this, so when you are well equipped and go back down a few planet tiers, the battle music won't queue anymore because enemies are very low threat.

Yea the battle music is sometimes annoying when you one-shot everything.
The thing i like about this game though, the game feels different when you mute the music, it gives a whole different feeling...

    The music is helluva amazing.

But the pacing is off. Combat prolly needs to be fleshed out more before the timing on music can be perfected. Altering battle music depending on the difference between you and a mob would be pretty sweet! Low level monsters may not trigger music, high level monsters can trigger something more intense and sudden (which plays nice when you get one shotted).
