Is the epic music just too much?

Yes, it is exactly what it sounds... Is the "epic music" that starts playing whenever you face an enemy just too epic sounding for its own?

Don't get me wrong, I love the music itself. It's awesome. But sometimes you're facing a couple hundred enemies over the course of a farming session, and in most times you're probably killing them pretty quickly.

So what happens is, music starts, straight into its epic portion, and 1 and a half second later, music stops playing all of a sudden... /cricket-noise (this times what... 200+?)

I don't know, after a while it starts feeling a bit off place. Anyone else?

yeah the battle music changes too quickly, i walk past alients one shotting them and music starts but they're dead whats the point, it ruins the relaxing music when walking around a planet. epic battle music should only play for mini-bosses and bosses. normal mobs dont need it and especially the weak ones that die quickly

I kinda like the epic music, even if it does end quite shortly after I kill the enemy.

  5. I like the epic music too, sometimes things get super intense so the music reflects that quickly. Then it's back to the awesome music that makes me feel like Morgan Freeman is narrating my adventure.

In the future, battle music should have it's own separate slider in the options.

    There are cases and cases...

if you are walking through a beautiful planet, enjoying a joyful soundtrack, and then the music changes for 1 second just because you had to shoot a pink pig-squirrel, well, it surely breaks immersion...

But once I was wandering through a planet during night, pointing things with my flashlight, enjoying an eerie and calm soundtrack...
Then suddenly I fell into a hole. When I turned around to point my flashlight to the other side, in a fraction of second this thing jumped on me, roared, and the music became intense!
I gotta say, it was one heck of a magical moment! :giggle:

I don't mean to remove it altogether. Just have it play a bit more scarcely, instead of in _every single small minion encounter_. If everything is epic, then nothing is ;-)

Also, better transition. Have it start straight into its apex, and then die abruptly feels really weird.

Having the music playing longer would not be an option either, because:

The enemy is defeated. Victory! However, there is still that music. That epic battle music.
You are just standing there doing nothing, but there is still epic battle music, like you are fighting dragons with lasers and flamethrowers.
    Imagine how that would look.
Unless your character is that epic, it is fitting, but mostly it is not (no, do not give me that look, you truly are not that epic. Not as epic as dragons with lasers and flamethrowers, by far not).

Having the battle music starting later on is not that convenient either. Changing the music? No. Because it is epic. Epic battle music.

Yeah, the transition of the music to a more intense version is a great touch.

Although, I would love to hear some of the experimental tracks make it into the game. Some are missing :<

I played the Final Fantasy series for years. Thousands and thousands of battles with that same music concept.

The problem to me in SB is the battles which last less than a second, yet still trigger the music. Maybe have the music trigger less in planets which have enemies with 5-10 lvls below your damage threshold?

I agree completely, that is why I started a discussion on Reddit about it a little while ago.

I think that the battle music should come on when facing a miniboss or boss as well as when you explore dungeons or faced with multiple enemies at a time (like a tower full of avian warriors holding a female avian captive). General walking around on the surface and caves and standard mobs should not trigger the change in music. Constantly changing the music back and forth really diminishes the value it has. It becomes annoying almost immediately because I want to listen to the whole song, not 1-10 seconds at a time, while exploring. Listening to the song Altair or Hymn to the Stars while exploring a snow biome planet (any really) at night feels incredibly lonely (I play solo) and my character (me) feel very vulnerable. This is absolutely not a bad thing, in fact, it is done phenomenally. You really get a sense of, you are alone...To be interrupted by a 5 second battle theme breaks that feeling, which makes me upset.

Haha, yeah, it is often like way too epic. I remember back when Star Wars Galaxies was released and it'd play the sweeping Star Wars theme when you're shooting at a lizard on a rock with a gun. Felt almost like a parody of itself.

Sometimes just to preserve my love of the music in this game, I actually mute it. The ambient sounds in this game are also really really nice. But then I remember how awesome the game's music and it's like aaaah dilemma.

I'll just say "music is too epic" is a good problem for a game to have. :D

People don't seem to be grasping what I said (three posters now have made comments focusing on the wrong aspect).

Yes, the music is awesome. Do I like hearing it? Absolutely. But should any awesome music in any game play for half a second, 500 times during a play session? And end without you hearing 2 of its notes? To me, simply NO! It takes away any value it might have.

LOL I never thought about that, but it's so true!!!

Maybe the music would only kick in with sufficient amount of enemies on screen.

Or with the coming update, only when there are clusters of mediums or a hard monster?

My only complaint with the battle music is it's way louder than all the other music. I run around enjoying the beautiful music until I run into a hostile monster and have my ears blown off.

I love the music. The only complaint I have is that I wish there were more variety, especially when visiting planets of different biomes.

It'll probably get better with the new combat system, it sounds like combat will last a little bit longer so maybe we'll get to hear the music for longer.
