Based on the chucklefish blog, I'd have to say no, not externally anyway. They plan to release one stable update then the one that would be considered 1.0

    Probably not.

Yea it seems they did indeed scrap it. Unless one of the devs come in here and confirms/denies it at any rate. Not that it really matters in the long run, progress is progress, and they've made loads of progress. :)

Looks like it has been definitely trashed out, we should wait till someone appears and confirms it though

I love the potential that SB has, but it's extremely difficult to be patient with the development process. Of all the expectations they have set, very few of them have come to fruition. Every thing from roadmaps, to news letters, to updates and of course the actual game release has been abandoned, changed or delayed. We've had expectations of receiving a complete game back in 2013 and now it appears we may not get it until 2015. To compound the annoyance of the missed projection dates we are constantly hearing about other games being published and developed. This company was funded and built up primarily by the pre-sales of Starbound. So expectations for this product to be actually released the way it was described is very high.

Nearly a year ago I had said on this forum that Tiy needs to hire a experienced project manager to guide this game to it's completion. I still stand by the statement based on the progression of the project. I can understand and empathize that sometimes mistakes happen and things don't always go as planned, But it's getting to the point now that any statement from CF in regards to Starbound's progress is likely to be something that can't be trusted.

I should mention I'm not angry or accusing CF of being crooks. But it's apparent they lack clear directions of where to take the game and they have a horrible track record of delivering what they promised.

Finally one last statement is directed to the fans of this game. I appreciate the fact that many of you are supportive of the company, however it annoys me when people take the attitude that it's ok for CF to take as much time as they need to complete the project. I want this game to be a quality product as much as the next person, but it is not ok to take years and years for that to happen. At any rate I still hope the game does well and turns out to be everything that the fans have hoped for

In my opinion, it matters little of what fans think of this game (as far as how it affects me). It's not like some fans are like "take your time" and the chucklefish team is like "hey, they told us to take our time. we're gonna go slow now." (this is only directed at what I quoted, not the rest of what you said :) )

The development process seems to constantly evolve so I can only assume no, because I have not seen much mention of the phase strategy.

Yep, so far it seems like this plan had changed, which isn't much of an issue, it probably makes it easier for them. (because why would they change that if it makes it harder?)
Making a game takes time, and usually with a game like Starbound it could take up to 3 years. Saying it shouldn't take years and years for that to happen doesn't make much sense if you want the game to turn out to be everything the fans hoped for. I apologize if I sound rude.

Pretty certain it hasn't been longer than 3 years. Starbound was first announced in February 2012, no?

What? The crowdfunding didn't didn't start until April 2013 so it hasn't even been a year and a half let alone three years. And we are looking at a full launch by the end of this year. This is a perfectly normal development cycle, and most definitely not too long. Three year development periods are far from uncommon, things happen sometimes, unexpected problems are normal.....by the time this game launches it will have been a couple of months over a year and a half since crowdfunding and about a year since the start of the beta.....not even close to two years.

What it has to do with crowdfunding? SB was officially announces on 22 February 2012 (and not its development started on this date, i think i read elsewhere it was in development since mid of 2011). And crowdfunding started under premise of :"Game is almost ready, but we ran out of our own money and we need yours to finish all whose great features". And sure no one at the start of crowdfunding campaign could imagine game will be in early alpha in the September 2014.

Well they did raise well over a million dollars and all or at least most of that is going into starbound. They got the funds to make a game much better than originally anticipated, which you should be infinitely happy about....but that also takes more time. If there is money for more development then more development will happen and more amazing things will make it into the game and that takes more time. It has barely been a year and a half which is perfectly normal.

When the game does release it will be at the absolute least two times better than it would have been if it only raised the minimum requirements.....but to implement several times more than the originally intended features increases the complexity exponentially and creates issues which take time to solve.

I gave my money to CF under premise of receiving SB 1.0 in end of 2013 as it was "almost done" in mid 2013. I didn't pay to sponsor complete reworking of said game for years. If they wanted to make game better with all money the receive they should release SB 1.0 in 2013 and start working on free addon like SB 1.5. And there all fun starts. If the tech demo we received at the end of 2013 is that they called "almost done SB" (and i'm pretty sure it is, as the money they revived simply cannot kick in so fast) so it was bound to end in huge fail and disasters for CF as the game wasn't even remotely close to the thing they promised. So no new cool office in England, no more work as publisher, because no one wants to work with a company with ruined reputation.
So they decided to drag development of SB into endless beta, and after almost a year i still struggle to find any signs of game becoming better - just some pieces of gameplay which were supposed to be there since 2013.

Yet, game still lack things that were supposed to be in "minimum requirements". But obviously they all are being "reworked" right now.

Oh cut the drama, everything is coming along perfectly and with a few months to go the release is basically within reach at this point. All things considered the game will be insanely amazing, just read a few of the recent updates or read about the nighties. A year of beta and a far more amazing game will be well worth the wait......better this way than to rush a 1.0 out the door and then waste time and resources on pointless things like maintaining save compatibility with a version of the game that is greatly inferior. If they had rushed it out the door then there would be real reasons to be upset about....fortunately they didn't.

  18. Taken from the official FAQ. The 3 stage beta is still a thing.

The second and third stages shouldn't hold a candle to the life span of the first stage -- as the first stage is reserved for creating and implementing, where as the last two stages are for iteration and tuning.

I think that helps answer the thread.:coffee:
