So we get the big update, and the AMA and that's it? Silence for weeks now? Like, they did their job and now they're done and we're all appeased?? What about updates? What about at least some blog or twitter check-ins to let us know how things are progressing? Come on Chucklefish, you need to keep us early-backers informed! We get cranky!

 

Who's we?
They've told us that they are gonna have a update soon, with Valentine Day related stuff as some icing. Also Smooth Mcgroove's voice is gonna replace the male microphone voice (it kinda sucked before imo). They have been keeping us inform, haven't you ever noticed that twitter feed on the right side of the forums?

Compared to every other early access game I've ever gotten into, Chucklefish is by far the best when it comes to communicating with their player base. They are *constantly* updating their Twitter, posting on Reddit, and in general keeping people informed. If you don't think that's enough... well, I guess that just proves it's impossible to keep everyone happy.

EDIT: Not to mention they're currently moving into their new offices. I'm sure that pulls some time away from talking with us.

 

Oh Twitter and Reddit! Of course, it's not like any of us at the Official Chucklefish/Starbound Forums forget that we need to check social media sites for official news concerning Starbound.

edit: The most recent thing I saw on twitter concerning Starbound prior to the last couple of days was Tiy talking about wanting to get a Starbound player who uses Steam that is paying without owning a copy to declare they aren't playing it or they'd prosecute. That right there scares me to no end, and it's purely because getting dragged out in a court case is a long, demanding process that just eats up all kinds of development time and the legal fees are frightening.

 

Yeah I am not a big fan of them putting patch notes on reddit instead of their own website. I don't use reddit and I am sure that I am not the only one...

 

After this next patch, we can expect more frequent patches. Chucklefish have had a lot of work to contend with and a new office to move in to also. I'm sure things will improve soon.

 

They tweeted today that the next patch is coming very very soon, and after it they'll be patching much more regularly.

 

And here I thought I was the only one that noticed.

I actually think it's kind of funny. The fact that we're going to be getting Valentine's Day fluff after President's Day really just embodies the fact that they don't really have a clue how long their releases are going to take.

They tweeted essentially that same thing for weeks prior to the previous patch. You'll understand if some of us have come to disregard such claims.

 

If you check their Twitter account, they tweeted that it would be coming real soon. Have a little faith in the developers.

 

Give them a break. They've been dealing with non-developing related issues man. From child predators to UK businesses unlawfully picking at them under false claims. Also they've been trying to get new employees where they need to be.

To make the wheel you have to chip the stone.

Like I said. They've said "very soon" many times, when it's actually meant "weeks." I check their twitter every day, that doesn't mean I believe a word that comes out of it.

I'm going to put on my "spoiled consumer" hat and say I don't care. The child predator took one person one day out of their job, according to the twitter. The whole UK business harassment thing was directed at Tiy, and from what I can tell from his twitter, it was done so independently of CF. Which makes that like saying I should be excused for doing my own job badly because I got a collection notice in the mail when I came home for the day. The army of people making excuses for them don't exactly give them any sense of urgency when it comes to delivering the product they've been paid millions of dollars for.

 

They were only expected to earn a fraction of that so I'm gonna hold them up to THAT standard, not the one you're making up.
If you're so displeased by them, why don't you go talk to them yourself?

 

They did warn you if you wanted a complete game, DO NOT BUY IT NOW. I have seen two massive updates since Christmas, pretty fantastic progress IMO. And every update brings a ton of stuff. I'd rather have game changing updates every 2-3 weeks than daily "oh we fixed this one thing".

 

I figured I'd just hold them up to the standards they've set for themselves in their delineation of how the beta would work, and how they perceive the future of starbound. Considering the amount of capital they have to work with, they should be able to meet them. So far they haven't come close. And for the record, I do inform them. Part of how I do so is posting on their official forums that they never read.

 

Then why'd you buy it?

 

If I could go back in time, I wouldn't have. I bought it based on promises, when beta first became available. Is there a point to this line of questioning? Because you seem to be implying no one is allowed to be dissatisfied with a purchase.

 

I'd recommend you read the other part of that Twitter response. I believe what you read "Steam customer to declare they don't play Starbound to me if they haven't bought it. Otherwise threatening to prosecute, it's disgusting." when in fact that is the second part of a two part Tweet.
