Is Starbound ready for 1.0 ? ( What do you think )

Considering the story update being released soon, and it seems it will be the last one before 1.0, do you think Starbound will have everything it needs to be complete?

At this time of developpement, no big game mechanics modifications can be implemented. So i am asking you to post ideas of small tweaks or adjustements Chucklefish could check out before the big release.

For exemple, tenants rewards are often underwhelming. Receiving seeds as a rent always seemed disappointing to me.

Also, i'd like to see bigger groups of monsters/ennemies instead of lonesome creeps trying to kill me.

    Share your ideas!

    Very excited for this release.

Definitely not ready for 1.0. What they posted was saying "Stable won't update until 1.0 is done". So many things still need work done on them, but I'm sure most will get done fast as soon as they're finished with the engine. Currently we, most of the players, look at the body of a car and are like "Yeah, it's a pretty nice car, but the window is cracked, the door is rusting, and the trunk doesn't open" while the mechanic is simply focusing on assembling the engine, and polishing the looks later.

I think something that really needs to be changed is the armor and weapon progression as a whole. Right now, its boring and repetitive; go to next planet, get ore, smelt, make, next planet, ore, smelt... you get it. I realize they're splitting up the progression system, but I think that they need to really focus on armor and weapon progression. I don't want the game to add more tiers, only for them to have the typical way of progressing. I think a game that does progression perfectly is Terraria (a game Starbound is greatly influenced by, as we all know). Terraria has way more tiers than Starbound AND manages to not be repetitive. For example, in Terraria, you get the basic 4 ores, but after that it completely changes. From bosses to events to mining to all three of them combined, Terraria makes every leap from tier to tier a whole new adventure.
How does Terraria do this? Why, they use quite an uncommon method - work on the current tier with almost no idea of the next tier, completely 100% finish it, and move onto the next. I see time and time again games having a big progression system planned out, but players end up running right through it because they know what to do at each step. Starbound falls into these types of games. So, in order for Starbound to improve its progression system, it'd unfortunately have to completely wipe its current system and start from the ground up. As time consuming as this sounds, in the end it will be far, far better than the current system.
tl;dr Starbound needs to be more like Terraria.

I get you; they could add some craftable armors that use other kind of materials, like mob drops. Sets of armor that can be acquired an other way that with normal materials, on top of the racial armors. That would make gear you craft more valuable to the player, i think.

I personally feel its super close to 1.0, and im sure they'll still address things post-update along with adding additional content. I have no doubts in this developer team.

    Short answer, yes.

For once 1.0 is on, then the mods can take over and make it into whatever we want it to be. I look forward to that day.

Hmm.. Difficult to answer. Even from what I do know from the dev posts, and snipets of nightly that I have heard. Only booted up nightly a couple times... So can't say much to knowing what is coming.

Overall I think if they believe it is ready, then it is ready. It is their game after all. I decide whether I like the final product or near final, when it comes to unstable default branch. I am sure though I will most likely like it with most the changes I have seen or heard of... except is inventory management; which I'll still have to figure on when comes to unstable... Was my only thing I disliked with some of the new changes, and expressed in the dev request thread mentioned here a final tweaks or things before 1.0.

I'll just await patiently till the time comes. :nuruhappy:

Note: I am easy to please... due to many traits I have...

I think it is ready for 1.0. it makes no sense to disparage them now, since they are in the final road towards release, and as an added surprise, a bit closer and in line with the plot release. They might even have an internal date estimated(reminder:they won't say it). Stardew Valley's release came at a good time to put them back on the map.

With the release will come a focus on more content around the system that they have, hopefully they can build on what they have and the mods in the community to keep Starbound fresh for a long while.

I do hope that they continue to keep in mind some of the tweaks that was mentioned in the reddit thread as they move towards and past release. Bug Fixes will be Bug Fixes. ;)

"I dont want more tiers... but Terraria has more tiers."

You are contredicting yourself. Every tier is literally a heavy grind for a single material. Starbound at least tosses in other items like leather and metal for armors.

Example. Platium armor needs 90 platinum bars. Each bar is made from 4 ore. So for the whole armor set, you need 360 platinum ore. That is one hell of a grind for just ONE tier.

That is literally how every game does it. What is so uncommon about it?

Ive not played 1.3, but I know what to do for every tier in Terraria. Farm the next material. Just like every other game.

And do what? Be like Terraria? They do the exact same thing, just with more tiers. So what would Chucklefish do? You say they should scrap it, so tell us how they should replace it too.

Im not *Completely* siding with this guy, but im just gonna give my two cents. In terraria the progression does feel very awesome and never gets repetitive, atleast for me. Even when you have to grind for 360 platinum ore, it doesnt feel like you have to.

Starbound tiers for me have never felt repetitive either, but just get slightly boring after a while, especially in the last few tiers when you can just go out and get everything super quickly.

I'm fine with 1.0 release... As long as it slowly crawls up to 2.0, maybe even 3.0 eventually. Figuratively speaking, of course. I don't know how would post-1.0 versions would be called, but I'm hoping that the development will continue beyond small tweaks and fixes here and there. Oh, and many modders vowed to start working real hard upon 1.0.

Yeah, you don't get that "have to" feeling, because the difference between armors is so tiny. Metior armor has the same base stats as Platinum, and is much easier to get. So if you get Platinum armor, it would be because you wanted it, not because you needed it, and "want" is a more powerful motivator than need.

In Starbound, there is a level of need to get higher tier armor, because the stats are just better.

Why it's almost like the core of this game isn't about getting MOAR NUMBERS or something.

Yeah yeah i get what you're saying. The difference between armors in terraria sucks until you get to the very very end game then its just too huge. But atleast for me i feel that starbounds armors dont really get that much more powerful, i know they do, but with the scaling it doesnt feel anymore powerful than what you had at the beginning. I hope they add set bonuses or something like terraria had with theirs.

Yaknow, in Terraria, you don't even need armor, really....

Why does armor need to be the progression matrix?

And yet, higher numbers are the only thing gained by gear progression in Starbound, and gear progression is required to complete missions etc. Maybe Starbound shouldn't actually have gear progression in it?

I think the game could do well without typical armor progression, but i doubt they would make such a huge change right before release.
