Is Starbound ONLY on steam?

Is steam the only place to download starbound or does it have another launcher like minecraft or league of legends, because i don't want to see my hours of starbound on steam because im going to be playing it like all day :'c

 

At the moment yes it's only on Steam. Later on they'll release a DRM free version though. =]

 

It seems that the beta is being done via steam, by the full release there will be a standalone client if I'm hearing things correctly though.

 

so if i want to switch over to the stand alone client i wont have to rebuy it if i have it on steam?

You don't want to use steam just because it shows how long you have been playing? That seems like a silly reason.

I'm not sure if the bug still exists or not but I don't think your hours are recorded on steam if you launch a game through a desktop shortcut. It worked that way with Kerbal Space Program and I
