Is race specific armor locked to that race only?

Just curious.

I'm honestly hoping that the answer is yes, but have my doubts. I look forward to making a character of each race and I guess it would make me feel more warm inside knowing that everybody with a character editor isn't sporting an armor for each race.

 

Each race starts with the crafting recipes for their armor, that's it. If you can get another races armor, you can use it, and if you somehow get the blueprint for it, you can craft it. I believe the developers wanted to make it so that, while there's some difference between races, you won't have to worry about picking a "bad" race. Which is why the race armors are going to get special bonuses later, rather than having those bonuses be passive racial abilities or something.

 

So essentially people who hack can still sport armors of other races, but since anyone can transfer items it's hard to really ever know who's honest. It bothers me, but oh well.

you can also get armour blueprints from different NPCs so it's not limited to hacking or passing different race armour

 

If you play with friends you can easily trade armor, Heck your characters all share a universe, you could hand out armor to your other characters if you wanted to.

 

Weapon vendor NPCs in villages typically sell blueprints for a set of their racial armor. Don't quote me on this, but from what I've seen it seems the blueprint they sell is determined by what level of planet they are on, so a level 5 sells Aegisalt tier and so on. So for now, you're pretty much out of luck when it comes to finding blueprints for human, hylotl, and possibly apex armors (don't recall the apex villages having a weapons vendor that sold armor blueprints).

 

I am wearing an hyotl durasteel armor as human, traded from friends on the server. I also bought avian armor blueprints from npcs and were able to craft these parts .. think that answers your question.

 

sorry for the semi-necro but it applies to my situation.
im buying all these armor blueprints for other races and it says i learned them when i consume them, but they dont show up in any of my workstations.
is this a bug or working as intended?

EDIT: i guess im answering my own question. searching through google it seems only the race its designed for can craft it but anyone can wear it.
