Is it possible to play star bound without steam?

I managed to get Steam on my school computer by not having it "offically" installed.

This -is- a high school though. I'm sure that wouldn't help you much. I know FTL had a seperate download for non-Steam users. I assume in the future, so will Starbound.

In my case it automatically starts the Steam-Client if I try to directly start the .exe from the games folder (and Steam is currently not running) and also counts the hours I am in Starbound.
The only thing that doesn´t seem to require the Steam-Client to be running seems to be the Starbound Server (but, of course, just having the server running doesn´t allow you to play the game ;) )

If you start Starbound with the exe named "starbound_opengl" located under \Steam\steamapps\common\Starbound\win64 it will work, and wont start steam.

I have created a shortcut from win32\starbound_openGL and i realizhed that i can start the game even without starting my steam.

Steam is only required for downloading and updating the game. It works just fine when the platform-specific executable is executed, even without Steam running.

Not yet. I believe they said something about Starbound being DRM free after beta.
Though, can't you just run steam in offline mode?

Starbound is already DRM-free, but there's no direct way (i.e. shortcut or desktop entry) to run it without using Steam.

If you already payed for the game, go Pixel it. Try BigApe.chuckle or GreenFinger.Fish

Of course, what kind of campus blocks Steam but not Pixel websites?

    Edit: Yay censorship!

umm... you can just make the shortcut yourself... Is what I did. Well if you are in windows I know you can. Simple as finding the exe file in the directory; right click and choosing send to desktop. that will create a direct shortcut on the desktop.

This topic is an old one, and back then they had not changed it to be that way yet. The 1st couple of releases didn't have that, if I remember correctly. It was put in the 3rd one I think. Anyway, right now it is possible to play without steam, using a direct link from the desktop. You will just have to make that link yourself though.

Please do not encourage downloading from Torrent Sites - even if you have paid for it. I have edited your post to be in compliance. The rules are quite strict on this matter, please don't do it again.

Now to clear up certain things.
Starbound at its present state is already DRM free.
You can run starbound without Steam, you can copy the starbound folder to another location - uninstall steam and it will work perfectly fine.
Steam is simply an update platform for Starbound.
