Is it possible to play star bound without steam?

Since I live on a college campus steam is blocked, and I was wondering if there was another way to play the game.

 

I highly doubt there's a legal way of doing that.

 

My way actually involves a bit of "cheating". Use a VPN to connect to Steam normally, as soon as you're logged in launch Starbound download and once it starts revert to standard connection. Steam downloads use HTTP which isn't blocked.

 

After beta they plan on making a DRM free version. But for now, not possible. Does offline mode not work? or is steam completely off limits on campus?

As he said, it's completely possible, but highly likely to not be legal.

 

Well, some games allow the .exe to be directly executed without Steam running (which, I guess, means that they are sold over Steam, but don´t use the Steam-Copyprotection).
Not the case for Starbound, however.

But I am not sure, AFAIK, while Steam has to be running in order to run Steam-protected games, only for the first time (for activation) an internet connection is required (with other words, you might also be able to run Starbound without connection to the Steam-Servers)

 

justfreevpn and superfreevpn won't let me login to Steam. Still trying to find another that will work.

 

Go to a public library with your computer "I'm assuming its a laptop" then download it and put your steam into offline mode to play it offline

 

Do you have an IPhone? If so, you could enable personal hotspot on it, connect to it using your computer, and run steam and download it with no problems. After it's done, just reconnect to the campus's wifi and play Starbound.

I could give you some ideas but they aren't worth my time. The devs do plan on releasing a no drm version but at this stage in beta with how many updates are coming it would require and waste to much time.

 

I suppose I have no qualms about pirating a game I already payed for thanks for the advice

 

i have not bought on steam cuz i cant afford atm but i am playing with friend together multiplayer u dont need use any vpn or anything so i dunno what you guys are talking about

 

You can technically find cracks( aka things like no cd cracks) without actually pirating the whole game.

 

You just publicly announced that you are going to pirate something.

This game's EXE does not require steam to be running. I tested this when I saw the EXE while looking for the songs folder.

 

Yet no-body mentioned the person who said they didn't pay for it

 

My starbound doesnt have steam, Well it did till the other day, I set the EXE and launcher to run as Admin, The Launcher has the steam overlay, But the game doesnt now, Odd.

 

I actually payed for 4 of them :O

 

Like I said, public library, mcdonalds even, download and play offline
