Is it possible to combine multiplayer with steam? Connecting is too difficult!

I cant play with my friends! In terraria i could use hamachi to play with someone, in starbound even hamachi doesnt help.

It's a beta, this is pretty low on their list... Just port forward.

'just port forward' doesn't work for everyone. I just spent like 2 hours trying to no avail to set up a server to play with a friend of mine, something about my system just won't allow it, and I can't figure it out, I can't even get Hamachi to work, some kind of 'tunneling' problem. (tried with Terraria too since we had used Hamachi for Terraria before and there are more thorough guides to setting up a Terraria server). Just because it's easy for some doesn't mean it's easy for everyone. I would love it if they just used Steam to make it simple, and so i wouldn't have to join some public server with a bunch of strangers, I just want to play with one friend.

Ahh yes, I was speaking kind of stubbornly, wasn't I...

I seemed to have forgotten that some people literally can't portforward, and I too have had problems with Hamachi.

If you try other VPNs like Tungle they might work? Just an idea. :)

If you don't use hamachi it's incredibly simple.

it's only simple if you can access your router, I can't. Lots of people can't.

I think I've not once touched my router after setting it up a year or so ago.
Why do you need to mess with it?

to set up port forwarding. I mean yeah i can JOIN without touching it, but I can't host. my friend has an unstable internet connection from a college, so he can't do it either, we're stuck.

Use Hamachi. It has worked perfectly for me.
