Is it normal to find...

A legendary sword on the first planet? Because this has happened to me with both characters I've started in this game. One shot flames and my current one shoots bubbles. It's made starting off so much easier. Am I just really lucky, or is this common?

Haha. They've just been in chests on the surface, so it's felt sort of like a "Welcome to the Beta!" gift.

 

Yeah, some get good arrivals and some get hit in the head by meteor or land in lava their first run. I guess I am one of the ones that actually had a good run when I first played. got a good sword that lasted me till gamma... Of course then the stuff was overpowered slightly. And on my current run I actually got decent sword from mini-boss, then later a better looking one in a facility. Lots more to explore.

 

No, it isn't normal. You're pretty lucky. I've started quite a few characters due to a race mod I'm developing, and I've never found a legendary on my starting planet.

 

In the last patch my character got a legendary bubble sword from a mini-boss drop on my starting planet. Luck of the draw really. Also, I would suggest trying to clear out an avian gunship or two. In the enraged koala beta sector, I obtained an 86 dps dagger w/ fire, an 80 dps rare plasma pistol (with a fire rate above 4.3/sec), and a 136 dps 2H sword w/ fire from the first three gunships that I found.

I'm still using the plasma pistol w/ shield in the gamma sector , especially while mining as the projectiles bounce off of walls and provide a light radius/penetration much greater than torches and the flashlight. It works great for ore hunting and/or digging while submerged (killed the bone dragon with a pistol/rocket launcher combo).

 

An normal as it is to not get one until T10. I've had both happen.

Well I get the feeling my luck is going to run dry and I won't find any other good weapons for most of the game.

 

Your bound to find better weapons, that is inevitable. Find one you like, that is another story.
