Is it moral to use cheat mods because of the character wipes?

I'm kinda lucky because I have only had to wipe my character once, but it was still annoying, and I understand there is more to come. I am really happy with my current character! I have seen many different mods especially in the cheat variety. Do you think that it is moral to use cheats to get back all of the stuff you had before a wipe?

    This needed color...
    BAM!!!

I posted this not as a personal question (I don't need your approval :p) but as a discussion on a topic that I knew would have very different opinions.

Morality is based on the user.
I edit the files all the time to see how far I can push the game.
Which requires me to spawn items to try new things out.

It's early access, you play to test.. why not? Not that my answer (yes) would be different if this was a final release. Everyone can play as they damn well please. If they use mods then they use mods. That's why the game is moddable. Morality has nothing to do with it, as you gain nothing from using cheats. This is not a competitive multiplayer title, no highscore boards, no ladder, no nothing. So it doesn't really matter.

    Omegnarok is right.
If you don't spoil the fun for other people, then there is no problem.

Unless it's a character that you'll be using on a server, it doesn't really seem like a question of moral/immoral.

I was thinking of using cheats after wipes as well, to get back to my current tier and tools.

It defeats the purpose of mass testing balancing trough forced wipes. the biggest deal is spoiling the game for others.

but even without any mods there are a few ways to easily duplicate items as long as characters and ships are not even stored server-side and can transfer items from client to server.

so any mod that gives you stuff cheaply dioesnt change much. it just makes modding and testing.

It's a sandbox game dun see why there should be anything wrong about doing what you want.

Currently they're tweaking the balance A LOT. That means the wipes are also helping to test out the new changes in mechanics.
Which means if you skip straight to the gear you had, you're not testing out the experience.

Nevertheless, I can see it justified.

True, gear is a bit iffy, but I wouldn't think twice getting my bass guitar and my pirate outfit back. :p

Good luck doing that once your character got wiped out for the third time after reaching end-game.

I do this. however my reasoning is due to a disability because of brain surgery. The quests were difficult for me the first time through, it would be undesirable to have to do them over and over again. Imho it's up to the individual user to decide based on patience, skill, and personal preference. Morals need not apply.

It's up to you buddy. Is it moral to steal from somebody else because they someone stole your wallet? That depends on you.

In this case it's a video game and no one really cares at this stage. Unless you are using these mods online or what-not, then it is sketchy.

It's nice when you want to build huge structures and you need a little more of a resource. And I like to have 999999 damage weapons with 0.01 speed to kill griefers in my server spawn but it does make the game more boring. So other than this I play on a vanilla character.

The only issue with it is that if you're cheating your way to the spot you were in, you aren't testing everything that came before it.

However, I don't think there will be a problem, because others will probably be running through that anyhow, and the higher stuff also needs testing.

Well, 1 more issue: How do you know any issues you find aren't a result of the cheating, rather than a bug in the game? :)

There is nothing wrong with cheating in single player. Some people cheat to get back what they lost if they get a character wipe.
Never cheat in multi player though. Unfair advantage and you can get banned from the servers.

If you're using them in a single player game then who cares, to each his own and as long as your personal game doesn't interfere and ruin anyone else game then it's really none of their business what you do.

I like to build things and show them off so I have one character that I use cheat mods on simply to allow me to do this easier.

My main character is for playing and testing purposes so I don't use anything on him and play the game as it was meant to be played.
