I've been thinking the same for a while... there's so much stuff being finished up lately, it does seem like they're getting ready for it at the very least.

 

I think we've got to look at the roadmap really to guess on a beta, I mean, crafting is a major part of playing the game, turning mined resources into useful items... but that's just a small part of the world experience. I don't know if they'd want to release a beta of the game without all the extra features they've promised.

 

The roadmap will supposedly be update in a few days, so that should be a good source of information.

 

Not true at all, my microwave plays a tune that sounds like the first 6 notes of the Song of Storms from Ocarina of Time.

 

I think the beta is close too, around one month close.

I think the "beep" thing is Tiy's new way of saying over and out. Like ending a conversation on a phone, beep.

 

Anyway, there's been language like this in almost every update they've given us. Remember how long ago "soon " was? Plus let's not forget Starbound's original release date of Summer 2012, then Q1 2013, and now "2013". Beta could very well be coming in December for all we know.

 

Close to beta release? i heavily doubt it

 

though from the looks of it it seems like thered be plenty done to actually release the beta or an alpha in the very least now. personally id rather actually play the game unfinished (which is what a beta or alpha is) and experience the updates myself rather than read about them, and if you look at the road map, again it shows pleanty of core elements being finished or near finished enough to actually release a beta.

 

I thought the "Beep" in Tiy's post was a reference to Sputnik.

 

But it also shows plenty of core elements nearly untouched, even all the server stuff is nowhere near completion. We all want to get our hands on the game, but the devs are already busy enough with fleshing out all the features already, because a beta is meant to be feature complete. If they would "release" it now, they would create a greater burden for themselves by trying to maintain the servers, looking after tons of complaints and problems by players and so on...All this is meant to happen when they don't need to care about adding basic features into the game.

 

#1 : "from the look of it"
Thats where the problem is, it look like a lot is done, but we dont see what isint done yet, which throws perspective on the matter out of whack

#2 : "plenty done to release a beta"
In its pure form, a beta is a feature complete software that reached the point where only bugs are left to be ironed out, which is also when some developpers decide to have a "beta test" to test theire game. And Tiy has already said he wont release anything that can be considered an "alpha" state of the game

#3 : "i'd rather play the game unfinished"
Thats your opinion, a lot of people on the forum would rather have the game finished

#4 : "the roadmap"
Tiy itself says it, the roadmap is there to give us a vague idea of how things are going, it is in no way whatsoever a hardcore system to quantify how much work still needs to be done.
10% in one category might very well take much longer than 10% in another category. It is merely an approximation.


all this is proves my theory : while the roadmap and the daily updates are great, they are giving people a false impression of fast progress and nearing beta release

I really hope so. There's not much else on the topic to be said since all it ever devolves to is an opinion war on how much should be done till beta, and to avoid that i'll just leave it at "I really hope so".

 

I chalked the "beep" up to Tiy being cute. o.o

 

Eventually it will go to that when Tiy sneezes, people start post forums about possible hint for beta release.

 

k, still would rather play the game unfinished then not play it at all, to me its gonna be a race between this and the new terraria update to see which actually takes my attention, cause if the terraria update sparks my interest to the point of me playing 100 hours a week again, there not gonna be any room for this
