Is it just me, or is Pulse Jump the only tech worth using?

I learned the hard way that you can only use one tech at a time. As i've been playing around with the various techs, a lot of them seem to be the exact same thing.

Butterfly Tech - Move across the screen really fast in a straight line in the air.
Gravity Bubble - Move across the screen really fast in a straight line. In a bubble.
Energy Dash - Move across the screen really fast in a straight line on the ground.

    Meanwhile, you have:

Pulse Jump - A double-jump that allows you to climb mountains faster, get out of holes easier, lets you change direction mid-jump, and is accessible from the Alpha planets.

Maybe I don't understand how to make the other techs work correctly, and if that's true, I apologize. However, I haven't used anything except Pulse Jump because it fits my playstyle the best, yet I hear everyone saying use Butterfly or die. I don't understand.

What am I doing wrong, and how do I fix it?

While Pulse Jump is more useful than anything else, things like energy dash are great for time saving, while exploring big planets.

Gravity bubble/butterfly techs allow you to fly, basically forever at the best armor tiers, if you tap. In any direction.

Energy dash carries you further and faster if you do it in midair, cancels fall damage, and is the fastest moving tech. You can also use it more or less infinitely in impervium.

Pulse jump is just a shittier Gravity Bubble. It's great until you get Gravity Bubble, but after that? Nope.

Butterfly is vastly inferior to bubble.

    Bubble > everything.

See, i've tried Gravity Bubble, but I couldn't get it to do anything other than fly a few feet in a straight line and then die on me, and this is with Impervium armor. Am I using it wrong? What are the controls to using it? Pulse Jump I only need to tap Space. What magic do I have to possess to make Gravity Bubble work?

    Yes.

Tap the space bar so it turns on and off, this conserves TONS of energy. In titanium armor I can fly for full minutes mining out background tiles.

Other than that, just use the wasd keys. You can go any direction you want.

For crying out loud, guys, you're talking about BUBBLE BOOST, not Gravity Bubble. The former is the one extremely similar to Butterfly Boost, while the latter is the one that lets you go floaty float for as long as your energy pool lasts.

All right, perfect, thank you. I'm going to try it out now, and see how it goes for me.

    What the?
Have they nerfed the Butterfly Boost?
As far as I remember it was waaaaaaaaaay better than the pulse jump. The pulse jump allows you to double jump, whereas the Boost tech allowed you to pretty much jump as often as you pleased and had energy left.

Bubble Boost is better than Butterfly Boost from my experience.. Gravity Bubble is plain garbage.. Bubble Boost gives you much faster acceleration than Butterfly does.. Butterfly requires longer bursts to maintain the speed you can acquire by simply tapping Bubble Boost.. In Impervium I can literally stay airborne forever with Bubble Boost and with greater ease than Butterfly Boost.. In fact, I had some epic (fun) ninja battles against a bunch of birds a few screens off the ground..

I love the pulse jump and really miss it. I've played for many many hours now since that last final wipe update and found quite a few tech chests (although none of them just sitting out in the open on the landscape) and haven't found any techs so far.

I always found it immensely useful that I'd jump off the side of a mountain and not realize that there was lava or acid pool at the bottom so when I see it I can hit the jump again and not land in the pool of acid or lava. Also all that time it saved me from having to lay down either blocks of dirt or wooden ledges to get up the side of a mountain simply by pulse jumping. Very very useful tech and I hope I find it soon else I'm sure I'll start getting frustrated.

Yes, bubble boost is faster than butterfly boost. Also, now, in best armor, you can't "noclip" it. You have to use it in bursts because while you're using it, energy does not regenerate. Doing it in bursts gives it the time to regenerate and if done properly you can still fly infinitely in Impervium armor.

Same with any boost tech or the energy dash. Pulse Jump just feels weak later on, as the use is limited compared with say, butterfly boost.

Bubble Boost basically gives you the highest controllable mobility.

Targeted Blink, however, is probably the fastest way to move in any direction. It's also incredibly rare and a little more chaotic to use than simply directional movement.

Bubble Boost. The way you can cruise up, down, left and right feels like god mode. It helps take down pesky birds, allows me to go straight up instead of climbing blocks, and can aid in evading enemies with ease.

I often clear planets in 5-10 minutes with this. I haven't tried the Butterfly Boost yet so I can't speak for that.

yeah you will upgrade later on depending on the armor and energy pool.

Butterfly/bubble boost will give you more in the end if you learn to controle it.
