Is Edge of Space named Starbound?

Does Edge of Space look like Starbound?

Answer these two questions and you have your answer.

I'm probably a bit biased but I think the two games look nothing alike. Wildly differing art styles.

  5. Well let's think of the facts here... Starbound takes place in space. Edge of Space takes place at... the... edge of... space?

    This is also a joke shut up ;-;

I think the main difference between the two is that Starbound focuses on exploring and "roleplaying" while Edge of Space focuses on action and PEW PEW PEW and KABOOOOM, y'see?

I am quite sure that for big part of this community, Starbound is/will be also about 'pew pew pew and kaboom'. As there will be probably something to do for wannabe explorers in Edge of Space. But yes, both games are different products, though they do have similiarities at the first glance, because of the setting and 2d platform sandbox theme.

I hate it when people go like ''They're completely different'' or ''It's like comparing apples to oranges'' when you indeed compare simialar games .When somone makes a *put game 1 here* vs *put other game here+ thread you can still just state your personal preference.
It's like saying you can't compare unreal tournament 2004 and quake 3. Sure, they're a bit different but they're very simialar games. They're still both fast paced arcady FPS.
Left4dead and killing floor are both first person shooters where you shoot zombies. yes, in left4dead you go trough a linear level while in killing floor you camp on places on the map to survive waves. That is actually stuff you can compare, and based on that you can state your preference. But comparing Super mario bros 3 with Unreal tournament 2004, now THAT wouldn't make sense.

They're totally the same game, dood! Why would they be different? I mean, it's made by the same company, both games have the same name, both have the same art style, both have gone through Greenlight, both have the exact same lore for races, both have the exact same principle, both have the exact same community, both are already available for you to play...

Yeah I could go on, but I'm pretty sure you got the idea.

    If not... good god o_O

Yeah, the thread itself is pretty retarded xD. it's like asking ''Hi, is cheese a cake?'' it makes no sense :p. But the reply of ''I'm probably a bit biased but I think the two games look nothing alike. Wildly differing art styles.'' and especially ''he are actually completely different, believe it or not.'' got me thinking again(before this thread i was thinking about it as well) of how annoying it is when people say a simialar game is ''too different'' to compare or prefer'

    my post above about that:

I've been playing a little bit of Edge of Space for a while. I think they have a lot of good ideas in place, but the game is coming together in bits and pieces. Last time I played a couple weeks ago there were only two monsters to kill: jellies and space crabs. Most of the crafting isn't implemented yet, so most of what you can do is dig and shoot jellies. Or space crabs. I can't wait to see how it comes together in the end, but it's going to be a while.

Meanwhile, it seems like Starbound is waiting until they have a more finished product before they launch the Beta. EoS is still making radical changes to UI and some core mechanics. I will love them both like my own children, though.

Well the games are pretty much brothers, originating from the same ancestor - Terraria. Still, completely different teams, even if basics are same, approach to everything is entirely different.

eh, to me edge of space just looks.. like shit. I'm not sure if it plays like shit, but all the gameplay vids and screenshots give a bad first impression. I have no interest in it.

A lot of people say that about games that use pixel art as well. They each have their own style. I think it's cool that EoS went in its own direction. It takes a little getting used to, but I have to remind myself that with EoS I signed on for a game that's kind of just BARELY in Beta. They're polishing all the time. In fact almost every time I sit down to play they've released a patch with updates. It's actually kinda awesome.

Pixel art/retro looking games can look very different from eachother. a lot of new indie ''retro'' games don't look good at all. They look worse than a nes game most of the time. Just look at the NES and SNES. There are ugly games and pretty games on there, both using the same hardware and limits. It's not pixel art, it's how it is used. Kinda like when people use vector graphics in flash games. Super Meat boy and the binding of isaac(by the same guy) use flash like graphics and actually look good to me. But most flash games with this style look very.. dull, and boring, even unprofessional to me.
