Is Boneboo a Fruit, Vegetable, or Meat?

This has probably already been discussed but HAY, it's a good topic.

 

It looks sort of like an apple, so I'm going with fruit. I imagine it tastes something
like a really bitter, sour, crunchy apple.

 

Well i think it MIGHT be a meat since floran are mostly carnivorous and they do quite like their boneboo.

 

It's also possible that they like it since it makes them stronger. And some plants (although more often mushrooms) can
have a sort of meaty flavor to them.

Also, any part of a plant which contains seeds is technically a fruit anyway.

 

Judging from the name I would say it might be mushy on the inside kinda like the durachin...

WELL Some(as in most non-civilized tribal floran) Floran do quite a bit of cannibalism. Plus the armor... Yeah

 

They don't just eat plants, they eat each other. Apparently quite frequently. Besides, what would be
screwed up about a plant eating another plant? It's not like animals never eat eachother. I mean, look
at the fast food industry. That's a good dozen or so colossal multinational corporations competing
to make us eat more cows at their places than the other places.

...my point is that florans eating a fruit isn't "cannibalism" anyway. They're not the same
species. Just like how humans and cows aren't the same species despite both being animals.

Speaking of which, why do humans and Hylotl always look at me so weird when I talk
about going out and getting a bit of chicken?

 

It´s a fruit, as you don´t have to replant it after harvesting. A better question is why it is so similar to flesh.

 

Headcanon time! Boneboo is a type of plant that grows well in arid, dry areas prone to wind and duststorms. It develops a hard, slightly brittle stem to brace itself in these harsh conditions. Its association with death comes from the fact that it grows and takes nutrients from deceased animals, especially their bones, whose calcium is used to create the plant's sturdy exteriors. For this reason, it commonly grows on the bonefields of desert planets that have recently suffered mass extinctions, giving the plant a macabre reputation.

 

Maybe because chickens are rare? I mean, the planet that they were native to was destroyed, and you eat it??!?!

To answer the OP's question whether or not it is a fruit, vegetable or meat.

Yes.

 

My headcanon is that it has pretty much the same texture and taste as bone marrow, once you get past the semi-fleshy exterior.

 

A hyotl character examining a boneboo says that they make many vegetarian dishes with them or something like that.

Also, it seems pretty clear to me that the part you eat is a fruit, not just leaves or stems or roots.
