Iron?

Anyone else finding it more difficult to find Iron? I've found a ton of copper,even a bunch of silver. But I have 5 iron bars total...I feel like iron is scarce, but it could just be me.

I do think that they should make copper/iron deposits a little more common, or at least give an option in the future. It gets annoying trying to craft something, but you have to find copper all the way across the planet because you've ran your area dry of it.

 

I'm having an easy time finding iron. Not sure if it's just luck, but there's definitely enough to suit my needs.

 

You're correct. I've been playing for 9 hours or so and have found just enough iron to make the distress beacon. Unfortunately the penguin invaders that appeared destroyed me so fast that I'm highly disinclined to play this for a while. It's frustrating to grind for hours for an unnecessarily rare item just to have all of that progress completely wiped when the boss appears. If there were enough iron, say, to create armor AND weapons AND the distress beacon in under 10 hours, that would be great.

If that's true then I like that system better. I haven't bothered to venture off because the tiers aren't properly implemented to give you higher tiered weapons yet.

Oh I'm doing plenty of searching. I was just wondering on other peoples luck or if I'm just having bad luck. I know that if you did further down you should start finding bigger veins but I'm just missing them I guess lol

 

I've found desert planets are great for ores. Mostly due to the fact that when you come across a large loose-sand area, digging is really quick. Beyond the quick digging, any ores that happen to be in the sand come loose instantly, which means very fast ore collection (as opposed to digging for several seconds in one area).

So far I've done this on 2 desert planets (lvl3 and 6) for coal to fuel the ship, managed around 500 coal after about an hours digging. Also managed about 200 iron and copper in the process.

The ore veins are the same size and frequency as on other planets, its just much quicker to get to them through loose sand, and much quicker to mine them.

 

Hmm good tip! I will see if I can find a desert planet.

 

I found hundreds of iron ore near the molten core of the last planet I visited.
