There's currently no pressure on the player to do anything in the game, even if the player has no items aside from the manipulator they can still mine coal to fuel the ship and travel regardless of how many times they are killed or starve to death. This got me thinking as to what would constitute as "pressure" on the player and with some inspiration from mass effect I thought of an invading race. Drops/Loot: killing one of these invading npc's would drop 1 - 2 of the following: - Nanoweave bandages. - Armor Set akin to the npc's suit. - Guns - Swords - Costume items: I.e mask. - Glowing skull - reskin of the lantern. - Jetpack - Tripod Spike - Tripod Spike - Human Impaled on it. (based on mass effects dragon's teeth,) Habbitat: - Outposts on planets(not biome specific but instead based on planets the ship has passed by.) - Ships in space(current location will depend on time systematically moving from planet to planet upon the hour.) Spawn Rate/Conditions: - The ships would appear from edges of the map every hour of game play after the first scout ship has been boarded/destoyed/cleared of hostiles. - Scout ship appears at start of the game in a random section of space. - Outposts(essentially villages of this hostile npc) spawn when the is within its solar system. Movement: -Every hour the scout ship changes x: y: position every hour until cleared. -Every hour invading ship changes to new solar system - can walk intimidatingly towards player with sword drawn. - can run at player if others are attacked - capable of jumping - can fly for limited time with jetpack - can combat roll at player. Attacks/Damage: - Can use bandages to regen (stops attacking and runs to heal). - Projectile Shield ( in shape. shield lasts for 3 seconds and can be redeployed in 30 seconds. transparent blue in appearance curved square. - Player takes around 10 - 100 dmg on hit. - Radio for help (unable to attack while radioing will have sound wave particle effect to indicate to player.) can only be used once 2% chance of this happening. - Can place landmines - Mob attacks at 1.33 second intervals mimicking player - Guns used range from dps to snipers dps guns shooting 8 bullets 10 dmg ech and snipers 1 bullet 80 dmg with a blue sight marking its trajectory. - 80 dmg from normal sword attack. - curved slash effect on sword, particles drawn into sword for 100 dmg charged attack (think of solar beam from pokemon or spirit bomb from DBZ, link's charged sword from zelda. as a reference.) Size: Player Sized. (swiped from example.) If you agree or have any suggestions/changes to what I've said feel free to respond with constructive feed back below
I think this idea has potential, and I agree that a little "persuasion" with regards to advancement in the story and in gameplay would be interesting and work well. However, I for one don't enjoy having a time limit on games. And sometimes, I don't like having pressure at all. I got the impression that these are people who attack you if you're taking too long, or along those lines. Perhaps they don't spawn on all difficulty levels? I sometimes like to take my time exploring, and sprucing up my house without the threat of an impending attack at all times. I found Blood-moons and other events in Terraria to be infuriating at times due to the fact that I was safe in my own house - the area immediately surrounding it. So it would take quite the balance to work appropriately. Nonetheless, I like the idea and I believe with the appropriate balance, it would work well.
even if the player did stumble upon the ship it would be a very long time before they were forced into a confrontation 1 solar system every hour and there's litterally hundreds of planets + going from edge to center, this way it doesn't have a repetitive style. so its more for people who want an active gaming experience.
