They aren't being entirely silent, no, but they are being silent on at least some conspicuous things they'd said they would talk about. This thread is about one of them. They said information about the Hylotl would be forthcoming; it hasn't been.

Other things they are staying close-lipped about are more arguable whether or not it would be good for them to respond to, but there are some specific points I do wish they'd acknowledge, if not necessarily answer in a concrete sense. Release date slippage is one of them, given how prominently they've been promising "2013 for sure" and now the mood seems to be "2013 for beta, release to follow". Settling for certain whether or not that's the official stance would lay doubts to rest one way or another, and let people move on.

Well, that's brand-new; I was wondering why I hadn't seen that information floating around. Okay, that does touch on some of my concerns, at least. I'm somewhat... "disappointed" is too strong a word... that some of the side promises got so quietly dropped, and wish they'd been officially recanted before this point, but better late than never. Thanks for the link.

Anyway, how about those Hylotl? Some of the item-description quotes from a dev stream a few weeks back turned up, talking about how under the water, air is precious - makes perfect sense, but I wonder if that shapes their culture to a great degree? They live in the midst of a very hostile environment - if they're in air-filled cities under the water, one that could crush them in moments if anything goes wrong. Could lead to an insular and conservative society, and player Hylotl might be nothing more than the ones who felt the most stifled by that environment, who wanted to see what was out there beyond their watery home, to find what resources and wonders might be there just waiting for them to discover.

Okay, so he wants Tier 1-3's universe to be a fun, polished, living world, and for key config to work.

This post might sound sarcastic, but I'm satisfied.

...It's actually the version of beta I had in mind when I thought that one released fairly close to today would be good.

    Thanks, Omni and Blue.

Glad I could help... if just being the messenger was helpful.

I just generally feel bad when I see people dealing with discontent in any form.

Actually new question: Why did Hofstadter have to name his law after himself? He could have used his first name or something, too.

    Oh well.

Some people don't know how to wait. Some people haven't waited for Black Mesa:Source or HL3 before, they have no CLUE what it's like to wait for a game and know almost NOTHING about it. At least with these dev updates daily we get fed delicious morsels of information rather than shut in the dark like Gabe Newell did. :<
