Wow. I did not even know about what Nintendo pulled with Youtube... what were they thinking? They're just going to bite themselves with that.

Also, Molly's voice is awesome and should be your board-computer's voice or something. :D

I know exactly what you mean. I am going to have to restrict myself and stop coming on these forums so much. I need distance to keep the pangs away.. sigh

A lot of the clips in that interview just got me more excited and it is looking more and more like the game I have been waiting years for. Explore, mine, build, kill small furry creatures...

but yeah, starbound is doing fine, and we should have nothing to fear but paranoia itself. As long as no one fans anything out of proportion, starbound should be released in 2014, most likely.

Don't you mean 2013? It's supposed to come out in 2013 (Very late probably).

Yeah, but I think the devs are over-estimating the release date just a little bit. I say 2014 to show the devs that I won't be mad at them if they push the date back to 2014, or even 2015 for that matter.

Don't starve came out recently, but the beta's been public for quite some time.

Let's see... the options Nintendo had for the most part were either to make Youtube take the videos down, or to leave them alone. Since Nintendo has interest in allowing people to continue to share within the community and such, they decided that it was best to keep the videos there. They like the fact that people can socialize and all that.

What they did do was put their own ads on said videos, which really isn't a big deal.

"But what about the video makers who aren't getting the money?" So what? These people profiting off of those videos aren't exactly in the right for doing it, since it's profiting off of material that isn't their own. Youtube ToS and such specifically has things against that. Nintendo is doing what they are doing because it is their property. They aren't taking the videos down, because -- as mentioned -- they would prefer people continue to share and mingle.

Yes, I realize they have the legal rights. But by doing that, they are very intentionally discouraging a lot of people from actually doing videos - as already stated in the vid, less publicity and all. They may be in the right, but in reality, they were losing nothing and gaining a lot from letting people freely showcase their games. Now, the less professional let's players (most of them) are heavily discouraged to actually let's play their games, because it pays their own costs less.

Given that none of the other companies have done such a thing so far, makes me think it was a bad move by nintendo. It's not just ads after all. They are actively taking a cut the let's players would get. This will very likely directly lead to Nintendo games being lets played less often and the games of other companies more, solely because people get more money of it to cover their own costs. Let's playing isn't free, even non-professional.
