This is mostly for the hard working programmers I guess but. According to everything I have looked through so far, I can't seem to find anywhere how multiplayer will work, perhaps we could get it up somewhere so people can see if they will need to forward ports and so forth. I'm not a huge fan of forwarding ports, and the idea that Terraria took with forwarding ports automatically when starting the server is great. Will starbound be alittle alike? Or have I completly missed out on seeing the post/place where it says something about the internet connection.
Now, since we haven't actually had our hands on the game yet, things are a bit sketchy here. The best I can give you is that from the early days they've been aiming to make it easier than Terraria. It's entirely possible that includes automatic port forwarding, but I'm not sure of the official word at the moment.
Considering as how I set a Terraria server up last night, I know for a fact that Terraria doesn't forward ports automatically. I feel the easiest way to implement what you ask would be through a match making system where one player acts as the host. The issue occurs when you realize that ports and their forwarding options are setup at your router, something which the software on your computer will not have access to, there's a little more to it than that but this is the simplest description I can come up with.
Yeah, I was just wondering whether or not the game would have automatic port forwarding. I'd love to host Terraria servers, but I can't port forward because I don't control my internet , and hamachi, quite frankly, sucks. I'd love for port forwarding to be automatic in starbound.
Instead of using hamachi I would strongly recommend you using tunngle. It does the same thing, but instead of having to connect to a friends network there is now rooms where like 255 people can be at the same time. If you want to be able to play alone with your friend you can just join a empty tunngle room and tell your friend to join it aswell, that way you wont have strangers joining your server. - Kind regards
They are very stable, I haven“t had any kind of problems with it. It functions just like hamachi, just better (IMO)
I have never had any Port forwarding issues with Terraria.. Or any other game for that matter. So I don't really get what everyone's fuss is about with hating on it all.. That said. The easier, the better when it comes to connecting with your friends, I'm sure they have that in a mindframe.
I sure hope so. Also- port forwarding can be an issue for some of us because we don't have access to our router/internet settings, which creates difficulties.
Well, I do have full access to my router and internet settings, but have never had to change anything at all within them to run anything. Everything has been pretty much straight forward and.. automatic? That said, I have heard of the providers in America being pretty crappy when it comes to the control and allowance issue.
I'd recommend Evolve over Tunngle, Hamachi, GameRanger, or any of that other jazz. It's a lot less hassle and I haven't really had it fail yet. It has mostly built-in twitchtv support and there's a built-in party and party-chat interface to make matchmaking and talking on mics to each other easier. I don't think me or my friends have had to forward ports since Evolve.
Agreed, I too am an Evolve User & it's been handy thus far. It has a couple buggers though, like I can talk to others on the Evolve VC, & for some weird reason they can't transmit back to me... but best thing my pals & I have found for MPing thus far.
