Interesting story line thoughts...

So I don't know if I was the first to think of this, or if anything beyond there will be an antagonistic has been said about the story but with that said I think I have figured it out. Now let me set the scene. I was at work last night(I work midnight at a factory) and I was thinking about what character I wanted to choose. When it hit me they have all the major animal classes but one. Then my thought process led me to wonder why that is? And like a ton of brick the answer came crashing down to me. The only logical explanation that there is no reptile like race in the game is because they are going to be the enemies you will be fighting with along your journey. Sure after the cat is out of the bag(when Starbound gets released) they will probably be one of the first updates but it's the only reason they could have for not making such an essential race.

I post this to you reader: What do think about an evil reptilian empire that you have to fight with along your travels? I personally think it would make a great story with an epic dragon like end boss(I mean how could you hate a dragon like end boss, it would be so epic). Now, post your thoughts and comments on what you think the story line will involve and why you think that.

 

I thought the Hyloti were like, Fish-frogs?

Why didn't you choose something completely out of the ordinary like uh, Arachnids or something?

 

I guess there is no insect race ether, maybe both will be the antagonist. You bring up a very good point.

 

I like it. IMO lizards are different enough from fishfrogs.

 

Hylotl are salamanders. Even their name sounds like the name of a salamander called an axolotl.

 

The devs didn't want to be completely generic though with their races - and if they were, they tried to find a way to make them unique. (see: Florans, Apex)

Plus, too many races would take away from the fun of the game, imo. Which would you rather: Have 1/7th of the race content at the start (like now), or have 1/12th of the race content? It's limiting us with every race they add - not to mention all the work the devs have to do making all the racial equipment.

Also, what theme is there left to use, anyway? Humans have the ordinary, Apex have the futuristic, Avians have the ancient, Florans have the overgrown, Glitch have the medieval, Novakids have the cowboys, Hylotl have the.. whatever they have, I'm actually not sure there.

Plus, I recall the devs saying that if they wanted to add any more races, they had to be different enough from the existing 6 - hence, Novakids.

 

The story shouldn't play too much of a role in the game, and should be slightly malleable to fit what you're doing. Finding out who/what destroyed your homeworld sounds interesting, but a game of Clue would be just as satisfying.

 

Amphibians and reptiles are not the same

 

Insect-like race sounds good to me. It would be cool if you could play them once you've beat the game

 

Another or a few other evil races trying to take over the universe is a very shallow generic story, but at the same time it fits perfectly into the game without having to take away from the gameplay.

 

I want to be an insect guy so bad after this. I can't unsee your thread, and now I can't stop thinking about it. I'll get back to you when I'm driven mad.
