Interest Check: 18+ Starbound Server (Plans)

The whole idea seems cool. I would like to apply whenever the applications are open... Might not be old enough but at least I can try. Until then, see you around the forums!

 

Instead of calling it 18+, why not just a mature user server? As you say yourself, its more because of wanting maturity, and less of actual adults.

Sounds entertaining, I might be interested in joining when the time comes.

 

I would be interested in joining a server such as this. I've been trying to find a good server to settle down in with a real community. I'm 17, but I can assure you no over the top shenanigans will occur near my sector of space.

 

Might be interesting, but I tend to stick to friends server or running my own most the time. But if i am in a public server mood i will check it out.

 

But space shenanigans are the best shenanigans.

 

I'm 24, but I do tend to argue a lot. I'm pretty chill about it though. You know, everything's just an opinion in the end. I tend to disagree with people, but I never feel like it's my life's purpose to prove them wrong. I love co-op building and PvP, and I plan on dedicating most of my free time on this game when it comes out, and all of those things make me way more comfortable around more mature players with good communication skills and a sense of fairness. In short, this server sounds like a very good idea.

Even if I wasn't accepted or if it was already full or whatever, I definitely think that the 15+ players on such a server would really enjoy the atmosphere and community built around it. This is absolutely a terrific idea, and you should do it for sure.

 

I knew I was going to get negative feedback about the age thing. But the age thing goes both ways - it's protect young players from mature content/conversation, and give older players a place they can unwind without having to walk on eggshells around young folks. I would say it's only about maturity, but maturity is what the application is for. I want to weed out the older players who don't play nice, but I also want to reduce the kind of problems that come from young people participating in or hearing conversations happening between people 20-40 years of age - or older! On the flip side, a mature teen who can handle themselves in this kind of environment is welcome to apply as well.

Overall, arguing about age rules on a forum is exactly a sign of something I don't want on my server. For anyone reading this, if this server doesn't sound like it's for you, then please find one that suits your needs. This server suits my needs, and that's why I'm making it. It's not about stereotypes, it's about providing the right atmosphere for a certain niche of gamers. Maturity is SO hard to measure, I'm just trying to find a good way to find those players.

@Fly the Fish, You exactly get what I'm trying to do! In answer to your question about keeping contact - I plan to use this thread as a reference. Anyone who says they're interested, I'll send them Message here on the forums to let them know the website is up and the application ready.

@DastardlyPanda, The purpose for the PvP arenas thing is to prepare for instances where someone who wants PvP encounters someone who doesn't. I don't want anger over a kill like that, and I definitely don't want pillaging of some poor explorer's camp! We can wait until we see how the Tier system works. I plan to work WITH the players to make general rules like PvP stuff so there's a system that works for everyone. Maybe we can make it so once you hit Tier 5, open PvP is allowed. Or maybe PvP is only allowed on Level 6+ planets or something. PvP is definitely a huge draw for a lot of players that I don't want people to miss out on. I'm not very good at it, but I'd like to try, certainly. RP PvP will certainly be allowed, because it's arranged between players ahead of time, who all agree on predetermined events and battles. But a blanket rule on PvP for non-RP players isn't decided yet!

Something I thought would be interesting to see is a Bounty Hunting or Pirate system popping up on large servers (because who doesn't think Space Cowboys are awesome!?). But with so many Starbound features unspoiled thus far, who knows what we'll find regarding those topics before the PCs even get involved! So this is also a wait and see thing!

@CaptainRick, You would be welcome to apply. Considering your age, I may not accept, but the application is designed to see how well the applicant expresses themselves and their ideas in writing. This clues me in to a mature, smart, thinking mind, and that's who I want. If you're beyond your age and you show it, I might accept.

I vaguely recall in a stream that it was mentioned that after the player reaches the final tier, they're locked into PvP. It's probably not set in stone, though.

 

Yep, Tier X. It is not set in stone, it doesn't even have a proper name since the X is just a placeholder name.

 

I don't have a special interest in joining a 'mature' server, to be honest... whether a server has a good community or not is ultimately up to the community itself, as well as careful moderation. If griefers get the message that their trolling won't be tolerated and the community as a whole fosters a positive environment, I don't really care one way or another how old the people in it are.

... THAT SAID, I can understand the appeal. Sometimes it's really awkward talking and interacting with teenagers (I'm in my late 20s) who come from a different generation than me (and I imagine it's sometimes awkward for them, too!). But I'd guess that's both a personal and common problem. And it's not always the case, either.

Yes but it is not the same as Tier 10. I do know my roman numerals, heck I laugh at the fact one of my professors owns a clock with the 4 being IIII instead of IV.

I was just noting that X is not the official final name if I recall what the devs said right.

 

I would be inclined to join it sounds quite nice for a calm server that people wouldn't have to watch their back for griefers and have nice conversations.

So on too my age and why i want to join. I'm 14 and i'm not going to call my self "Mature" But that for you too judge right? Anyways i'm a pretty calm person. Sometimes i can't be a bit opinionated but that's just for a fun thing i like to do since i like to talk alot about certain subjects, I'm not a very shielded person so no one would have to be afraid to talk about certain things and as you said "Without walking on eggshells"

Anyways if you would like more about me or you don't see i'm fit for the server because of my age that's fine with me.

 

I'd love the chance to get in on this. Especially with games where a base and all is required, it's good to be a part of a community with similar interests and respect for each other.

I'd be interested in playing on a server like this. Not because I mind playing with younger players, I don't, but because I do prefer to play with those of a more mature mindset. I'm old... well 31, so older than anyone else who stated their age anyway. Definitely shoot an application my way if you get this up and running, every server needs their grisly old war vet after all.

 

This may be a good idea! Though, do keep in mind (and make sure the player pool is aware) that 18+ 'mature' does NOT necessarily mean R-rated. I have no interest in an R-rated server, and the internet sometimes makes connections like that, due to it being the internet.
