@SPOOKS80 - Oh, I hadn't even thought of the inability to save the 'spawn' point! Good point! Yet another reason to wait. And I'm sure most of the people who have signed up will get in. It's obvious I really have appealed to a niche of players here! Just as I hoped! I'm so glad I put up my thread now before the tidal wave of server ads hit the forum. @_@

@Jarlyk - That's a great suggestion! I'll keep that in mind. I might do that once I've gone through the first batch of applications! And feel free to join the server with a new character too. I was considering playing around in Stage 1 and then committing to a Main character when the game finally stabilizes saves.

@Jhago - Those are good questions...I have no idea. I think I read somewhere that even Tiy didn't know where multiple players would be spawned, but that must have been months ago. It might be an option an Admin can choose - one spawn location or everyone is placed randomly. I don't know which I'd choose! And no, there won't be a limit on how many planets can be inhabited. I'm sure the game will eventually be able to handle that. If I open the server in Stage 2 or 3 and we experience lag issues that seem to be caused by everyone being so spread out, we'll deal with it then. Might have to play in a single solar system in that case. We'll see!

@Sir Slush - No, playing on your own is not a problem at all. I figure most players will be Drifters (playing solo). And your second question... I've been thinking since Jhago's question a page or so ago that once accepted, you'll always be on the whitelist unless I notice that you've disappeared for like a year! And yes, hosting a server can be expensive. Right now, I estimate starting up with 60 slots will be about 60 bucks, plus 59 for 6 months of full website features, plus roughly 30 bucks for 30 slots on a TeamSpeak 3 server. But I am willing to spend this much for the startup. I hope Multiplay will host Starbound, because they have a feature called Clan-Pay which would be useful if anyone would be willing to help out with the bill to keep it up!

@New People - Hi! Thank you so much for your interest. I'll send along the link to the application soon enough. :)

This caught my attention. I'd be interested in joining a mature community for this depending on the direction you're taking it in. I'm always looking for a good roleplay group(Realistic and with that dirty sense of humor that not many groups cater to) But I can handle just playing the game. Honestly, I just want to have a good time and this caught my eye for it.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, I'm 21.

I can't guarantee I'll ever be on outside of trading materials and items I have no use for for pixels/things I can use, but I think this is an excellent idea. Consider this my request for an application, once the application period opens.

@Vahi5 - Hey, an intergalactic trader sounds pretty cool to me!

I have a question; would it be wrong of me to construct a small building to do business from on individual planets? I can see how that would irritate some, especially since I'd be there semi-rarely/ if I blunder into an Rp world, as improbable as that is.

I'm not sure what you mean? Like have a shop on multiple random planets?

Basically, that's what I'm saying. I'll probably either be traveling to the customers I think are most likely to buy the wares I have in stock, or exploring and looking for treasure, because what kind of semi-dodgy interstellar trader would I be if I didn't have hardware from, say, an abandoned Apex lab or an abandoned Glitch village? And of course, since treasure hunting invariably involves some danger, I'll most likely be putting my old gear on the market as I find/make new gear. Or take better gear than what I have as payment.

But yeah, I'm wondering if I can leave small shops on planets so I have a regular place to do business from when I'm on that planet.

Ooh, I see. Well, yeah, that's fine.

I'm planning on setting up a Trade Colony, or a planet with a small city dedicated to being a place for players from all over to meet up, RP, live, and trade. You would be welcome to set up a booth there and open only when you're on the server or something. Or just set up shops around the universe. Either one works!

Of course, it'd be best to get permission if it's on someone's homeworld, unless you want to get shot.

Well of course, that's common sense! Similarly, if you set up on an uninhabited world, you could set up a sign explaining your shop just in case someone does find it. Probably best not to leave a shop unattended with stuff in it, though, mature server or not. Someone might think it's part of the game. xD

I'd probably set up a main location on the trade colony and have several branch offices for more specialized markets. After all, heating fuel might not sell so well on a trade world, but I'm sure I can find a buyer on an ice planet. Besides, I'm sure I can make a sign that says [Closed: Please come see us at our Gorggori Beta location.] or [Closed: replenishing stock] if I'm not at the store. I'd also probably store the most valuable stuff on my ship if the shop's closed.

Of course, Just showing up somewhere and saying "I have a store over here!" would be bad for my business across the universe. Besides, talking to people on the planer would give me an idea of what to bring when I show up there, be it food and consumables, building materials, or weapons and armor.

You obviously didn't read most of this thread. The requisite is focused more on maturity than actual age. If you feel you are mature, but are under the age of 18, by all means apply.

I'm not sure if "18+" is the right term. There are plenty of mature 16 year-olds, and tons of immature 21 year - olds.
I wish that I could call it "mature" or "adult", but those also could attract the wrong crowd.
Also, yes I would definitely like a genuinely mature server to play on. I just have to happen by those in Minecraft.
"genuinely mature" would probably be the best way to put it. Though I do sometimes act quite embarrassingly, so it might not be my only server depending on the tone.

I'm keeping 18+ despite the *winkwinknudgenudge* connotation of the term because of the content allowed on the server, i.e. language, adult conversation revolving around careers, kids, college, car troubles, rent, etc., in-depth RP that might touch on mature themes, and so on. I also aim that high because it's a personal preference of mine to play with other people my age or older. And thirdly, yes, I aim for a mature server by weeding out the very young, who can't quite understand the above mentioned topics as an adult would because of a lack of experience. I'm granting leniency to younger players because I know very well that there are exceptions, and on the flip side, I have high standards for maturity in older players that I expect from them.

And, by the way, I toss the word 'maturity' about in this thread as if everyone knows what it means, but the definition is not so clean cut. A mature person doesn't act like they would in church all the time, after all! But they have a certain level of understanding of other people, themselves, and respect for boundaries that allow them to cooperate and coexist with each other despite massive differences in preferences, opinions, and identities. That's what I'm looking for. Fart jokes, and "That's what she said" comments are perfectly acceptable forms of humor, as long as it doesn't cross a line. That line is seen and treated carefully by mature individuals. Immature individuals cross it frequently, and have a difficult time getting a feel for where it is, even when told the exact coordinates.

You are welcome to apply when apps open!

And @Vahi5 that sounds perfectly acceptable. You seem to have a good idea of what not to do, so I'd say run the shop in whatever way works!
I'm sure we'll all learn a bit about what will sell where and when and to who when the game comes out. Minecraft's only top tier valuable is diamonds, and Terraria has a set number of them. With the sheer scope of the Starbound experience, I bet intergalactic traders will have a more in-depth economy to work with!
