Instruments

I just wanted to say that it makes me ridiculously happy that there are instruments in this game. I took a break from my avian to roll a human and there was a chest right next to spawn on my first planet that contained a hammered dulcimer. Pachelbel's Canon sounds gorgeous on it.

I can't wait to see bands in multiplayer.

 

That looks so cool, I want a bass guitar!

 

So far I've found a piano and an oboe on my floran.

 

Is there ONLY one song implemented for now, or do we have to implement them ourselves elsewhere?

 

In (your steam directory)/common/Starbound/assets/songs, you can find the current song file, and you can drop in more. The songs use abc notation, so you can create and/or edit them with a text editor.

I've found a microphone, and I find it highly amusing how my test character is able to sing in harmony with herself. I now wish I had named her Agnes...

 

Only one implemented right now, but if you go to http://www.lotro-abc.com/ (warning, audio player as page loads) you can download one of the files there and put it in Steam>steamapps>common>Starbound>assets>songs (note: this requires a client restart.)

Edit: SpaceKGreen beat me to it by seconds, but I'm not even mad since he made a Discworld reference.

My slaughter happy floran found a saxophone today. It is kinda cool that instruments exist in the game.

Btw, for a bunch of flower people, Florans are quite bloodthirsty. I found a floran desert town earlier in which pretty much all the armed men wanted my scalp or something, and I'm a floran girl myself! The other floran girls didn't mind, they seemed quite happy to see me. Why did I had to slaughter half a dozen of the guards? I don't know. I also found a pirate flying wooden ship full of pirates bird people. They were super welcoming! Pirates! They even had an assortement of crappy guns for sale. (overpriced for what they are, the starting basic bow does a better job and doesn't cost you 350 pixels.)

Btw, if you find a flying wooden ship, mind the propellers. They one shot you

 

You should put your weapons away in towns. Guards get understandably pissy if you walk around with broadswords drawn or pointing pistols at people.

 

Instruments in multiplayer are kinda glitchy atm. I've converted some midi files into abc files and here's a few I've noticed:
-The first song you play in a session (per each time a planet is loaded?) (or the first song someone hears) is usually always heard by others, but stopping and playing it/something else has a decent chance of them not hearing anything (although I can hear it)
-When beaming down to a planet while playing a song, you will still play your song on your screen, but others won't see or hear you playing.
