    Every mod is obviously different.
I told you basically to just post the "starbound.log" file in your "/giraffe_storage/" directory.

That file in there, called "starbound" without file extension, open it and copy paste the content in the thread.

I downloaded a handful of mods, unzipped them, and then put the folders in the mod folder. As far as I understand this is all that is necessary to modding the game, however none of my mods are working. I even compared screenshots to a friend who has the same mods installed in the same way and his work just fine despite looking exactly the same. I even tried rebooting my computer, because why not, but that did nothing either.

Is there something I'm missing out on here? How come my mods won't work?

Triple check your folders and follow the system of:

    giraffe_storage/mods/YourMod/YourMod.modinfo
    giraffe_storage/mods/YourMod.modpak

Also, make sure it's in giraffe_storage, not koala_storage.

My friend's looks identical to this. His works, mine doesn't. As far as my technical knowledge goes the only theory I could come up with is that my computer is somehow haunted by angry demons who don't want me to have fun playing a modded Starbound, those jerks. Perhaps you have a more plausible theory as to what is going wrong.

Are there modinfo files directly within each of the mod folders you've got there?

That doesn't matter. open one of those folders and take a screen shot

Exactly what Kayuko said is your problem is what happened.
It is not the same as your friends - you will notice the failiars_starboundmod_1_1_1 giraffe should not be there

move familiars.stable.dev directly into mods folder.
Check out the infographic on the first post.

Nevermind, I just figured out what was wrong. It was simultaneously a stupid mistake and an easy one to make.

    Goddamn fileception.

If it gets to the Main Menu without crashing, are the mods working properly?

Only if you see the mods on the bottom right in red.

I keep getting Runtime errors and all the mods i install crash the game. None of the mods end in .modpack and i cant find anything wrong with the trace logs. The mods add a race, and expand the character creator. Is there a script extender somewhere that i need?

    Log file please.

You either installed them wrong, or they are outdated.

i think they're outdated, the descriptions are all Koala versions or say "most recent version" but are 6-7 months old. Its now giving me "Asset Exception" and "Humanoid Timing" errors.

...nvm. Im a moron. Only 1 wasnt working i just tried to use NMM and bulk installed. neither works btw...

Download like any recent mod and copy its modinfo file. Rename it where necessary.
